Looks like the Vatican have been up to no good. But are we really surprised?
Not really, a lot of the stereotypes about dodgy Swiss Bank Accounts are true, They have plenty of laws and rules that supposedly ensure they don't end up handling money from the profits of crime etc, but they're usually trumped by their 'privacy' laws.
It's also fair to claim the Swiss Banks made fortunes from the Holocaust, there are plenty of conspiracy theories and patchy accounts about the who's and how's but Billions (in todays money) of looted gold, some literally from the mouths of people Murdered by the Nazis ended up in Swiss Banks, which is Evil enough, but there are credible theories at least that Bankers realised that the holders of some of these secret accounts didn't survive the war or Nuremberg trials they in turn looted the accounts for themselves.
I'd guess the only reason the UK would be in dodgy Swiss Banking is because we're trying to steal their crown, they made their deal with the Nazis, we made ours the the Russian Oligarchs and Middle Eastern playboys
Surprised about the Vatican and dodgy finances? I'm no expert on the Catholic Church, but it sure doesn't seem surprising.
Surprised about Swiss banks being, shall we say, immoral? Nope!
After years of living in CH, and make no mistake it is like societal/geographical Disneyland in many respects, there are 2 real oddities:
1) Banking and financial process: there are layers and layers of unique process around everything to do with banking/finance/tax, that are adhered to with great pride, but that are actually somewhat superficial - when you get into it, IME it's all about having a nice chat with Stefan at the bank and mysteriously all the systems and due process are whisked out of the way. Most enlightening!
2) The Swiss fiercely protect and voice their 'neutrality', behind which the mindset applies to so many factors of their society. But then after a while, peeling back the surface and realise the uncomfortable reality that a large part of this cannot be viewed any other way than immoral or selfish. It's a fine line, but once you've seen the other side it's really quite repulsive.
Do I countdown to JHJ arriving?
No surprise; it's not a new revelation.
Some interesting details but the generality has been known for many years and, generally, not questioned.
I'm not surprised they have a role in the Vatican's dodgy deals. Who doesn't like a Suisse role?
Who doesn’t like a Suisse role?
Wahey!
I'm astonished anyone is surprised that Swiss banks have dodgy dealings.
I also think people in glass houses should be wary of throwing stones. You and I may have to jump through hoops to open an account or make a substantial purchase, I suspect banks in London can be more accommodating to those with large ill gotten gains.
I am surprised, though I realise that is a bit naive, not at the dodgy dealings but at the scale.
Do I countdown to JHJ arriving?
🙂 is there an incantation we can chant to speed him along?

Smaller than you imagined?
When the people who have got the most to gain by offshoring their finances whether to hide ill gotten profits or just for tax evasion/avoidance are the same people who finance political parties, then there is no chance that anything will change.
These parasitic states should have been internationally isolated years ago.
Are you more surprised that Swiss banks are involved, or the Vatican? As I doubt anyone is actually surprised by either.
