I can’t believe a courier did that
He needs to packet in
I’ve seen videos of this with pizza delivery guys, the owner seemed quite happy.
Guess it’s part and parcel of the job !!
This behaviour needs to be stamped out
Comic Sans and you'd have been laughing!
* yes stealing ideas from the earlier typeface jokes.
Our local Hermes lady is part of the community now, she's a very forthright lady and would do this if you left the door unlocked.
She has a tendency to pinch the best plums off the tree and once came in the back garden to ask if we had any school trousers her son could have.
Could be worse, someone left a horse tied up in our garden when I was a nipper.

Did you ever find out who? One of the neigh-bours must have been the mane suspect. Odd thing to leave you saddled with though, you must have bridled at that!
I’d call it good service.
That’s all I read in to it. I’d love it if they popped in here. Beats leaving things outside or having to rush downstairs because most folk knock then bugger off within two seconds if you’ve not answered.
Is that not how it works? You buy stuff, they bring it you and drop it off in the house.
Most of our deliverers do this, but the Hermes lady won’t cross the drawbridge.
Was expecting a punchline after that thread title OP.
"A courier walks into a house, the occupant doesn't say anything." isn't that funny though, I suppose.
Hope you're gonna start locking your front door now anyway.
Sheesh.
Round here the local FB page is awash with reports of couriers not delivering stuff, I guess if they can prove it arrived in the house it saves a lot of grief.
Our postman once left a parcel "in the shed with the guinea pig" according to the note through the door. To do that he unbolted the side gate and presumably checked which of the sheds was unlocked, which shows commitment, I'll grant you.

Apparently some pizza deliverers have found a way to take a central inch-wide slice out of large pizzas to give themselves a free meal without it being noticed. I'm sure they nip in some customers houses and give it a quick heat up in the microwave too 😀

I would find it really hard to be annoyed about that. Fair play to them and saves my belly.
Right, I stand corrected. Will inform wife to remember to check the door is locked! Especially as I now remember during first lockdown police warned us that local baddies were walking into people's houses, even when people were in.
P.S. I don't get the font jokes??
Always very happy if couriers put things in the door instead of leaving them outside tbh.
I mean, you're worried about "if the courier was a sinster type" but you don't seem to be at all worried about everyone else in the world that can just walk in through your unlocked door? I'm not worried about that either which is why my door's unlocked and also why I'm not worried about couriers doing it. But if I was worried I'd bloody lock it.
At least they shut the door. I have had a few couriers who just leave the gate wide open and that can mean cows or horses coming in to see what they can eat in the garden. My neighbour had a garden full of cows just last week after her gate was left open.
Locking the gate makes deliveries a bit difficult though doesn't it...
To all those defending the courier / berating the OP, I say this:
The courier has no idea what's behind the door. OP and PartnerOfOP could be doing rude things on the couch. And yes, they should've locked the door first but sometimes the heat of the moment and something something, and elsewhere on STW people are arguing that you shouldn't have to lock yourself into your own home in the first place. But however you slice it, it's an invasion of privacy.
For my part I almost always lock the front door even when at home, not least because I'm usually working (or spodding on STW) upstairs. I've had this happen where a delivery-person has torn open the front door and wanged a parcel through it. Yay, great, successfully delivered parcel. However. As above, I have cats, two are kittens who have never known "outside" and the other is getting on a bit and has the road sense of a KFC Bargain Bucket. If any were to get out I'd likely need a spatula.
I’d be more concerned if it was Times New Roman.
My last one was delivered by a drone. As proof of delivery they took an Arial photograph.
seems ok to leave a door unlocked so any actual “sinister” person could just walk in
As a left-hander, I'm offended by this.
I’m with the op on this. But also was under the impression that most front doors latch when pushed to.
Most? No. The Yale-style latches on wooden doors do (and are shit, replace them), and older uPVC locks also. The vast majority IME do not.

Happens all the time here. Shetland.
Many people rarely lock their doors, many don’t even ‘key the car’.
It’s Shetland, exactly how far are they going to get with a stolen car?
“courier morphs into psycho weirdo killer”
qu'est-ce que c'est?
“ Not sure how to deal with this. Any thoughts?”
LOCK YOUR DOOR 🔫

If you think delivery 12” is special then yes.
Happens fairly often to us (NE Scotland) and I’ve always thought it was just good service. There is a pretty small group of drivers that deliver out here and I guess I’ve got to know them all.
We’ve got a friend from Shetland who never locks his (remote) house even when he’s away. When asked why not he just says “what if someone wanted to get in?”

Obviously depends where they've stolen it from but it could be as much as 60-odd miles.
Yes, I was curious and had a look on Google Maps. And yes, I've more useful things I should be doing but I'm procrastinating as hard as I can. Which is pretty damn hard.
