Couldn't care less about NYE

[#12669344]

Spent most of the day listening to various radio stations getting excessively excited about NYE. Am I the only one who could not give a s&@+ about it?

Same for Christmas this year; really not fussed. I ended up having to go to 3 supermarkets on Christmas Eve this year. Instead of the usual mad panic, they just seemed to be full of an air of "let's just get this over with"

I would far rather be in the garage doing something useful!

Never been that fussed with NYE.
Mrs is currently not feeling well, dogs aren't happy with the increasing amount of fireworks so trying to keep them happy.
Sat watching Game of Thrones....

Spent the day snoozing after getting soaked walking back from the supermarket.

GF and I drove off and ate now in the remotest bit of Essex.... Dengie Peninsular. Flat, exposed and 40mph gusts of wind in a nigh on 3m high van means we're rocking.

Four Ghost Ships, a bottle of Chianti with only a bottle of Champers left to drink.

NYE 2K Gatecrasher such a massive disappointment. Yes it Gatecrasher was past it's best by then but the sound system was shite and even wearing a coat and non stop dancing it was frigging cold.

I’ve not been fussed about it for years, especially since having kids, it felt a bit forced. But, I’m just back from a bar in Andorra having been out with my nearly 18 year old daughter after a day skiing First time really having a grown up night out with her and it was bloody ace.

I couldn't care less about people who couldn't care less about me caring less about some people... BUT... Frank's post mentioning Andorra has filled me with joy, because on this special night of the year.. 36 years ago.. I met the love of my life in a bar.. at a hogmanay party.. in Andorra.
Cheers and have a satisfying 2023 👍🙂❤️

Due to the unique way we are rota’d I finished a 6 day run at work yesterday..

as far as I’m concerned its just Saturday, this whole festive period hasn’t happened.

I don’t like this time of year, and I’m very glad to see the back of it.

I wonder if they use the same clock every year or if they give it a freshen up, or if replaced every year maybe someone gets to keep the previous years clock?

Wonder how much rehearsing they do. Are the members of Jools Hollands band the same as they were last year?

So many questions I don't particularly need answers to.

Been ill since Tuesday with whatever the awful cold going round and it's still not shifting, son isn't too well either so a bit crap for me tonight but hope every one else is having a good one. Used to be out every NYE when younger but not as bothered nowadays, especially with a young son. Hopefully change when he's a bit older though, will try and do something different every year perhaps rather than getting ****faced.

If it wasn't new years eve I wouldn't be up watching this celebration of mediocrity that is on every bloody channel.
I don't know who the bloke with the long bling hair is but he is the musical equivalent of a garden centre. **** off.

One year becomes another, like it did yesterday as well and the day before...

Take the next 365 days to do whatever it is you really want to.

Thank you, excellent description. Resulted in me spending the first few mins of 2023 having a massive coughing fit 😂

Had an evening on the sofa on my own due to not wanting to aggravate whatever I did to my back on Thursday!
3 episodes of Bangers and Cash, 3 NCIS LA, just caught the end of the fireworks on TV as it turned into Beruit round here!
Dog was pretty chilled throughout though.

Happy New Year STW.

Only decent Nye I've had was in Byron Bay back in 1999..
The only disappointing thing was the Y2K bug didn't temporarily shut everything down and leave us 'stuck' there...

I'm normally sort of agnostic about but like to at least mark it with close family. Not this years, sick as a dog and spent it in a sweaty stupor in bed.

Fever has passed but now just have horrible hangover like symptoms so at least I'm getting part of the experience.

Went to a wedding last night. Good Times.

Usually rather agnostic about it. It's just a day. That said.

Been in bed for 10pm for some.
Been out and mashed for others.

Not getting any younger and more are early bed than fireworks these days.

> NYE 2K Gatecrasher such a massive disappointment

An idiot climbed the lightning rig and they shut down the sound until he was down, Robbie Williams was played over NY, the Chemical Brothers set was lackluster and the car park was so muddy we had to push the car out. For £100 a ticket! The party from midnight to about 4 was great though.

Most years after that I've just been to bed when I'm ready, usually about 10:30, ready for a nice walk on NY Day.

Bed at 9.30pm, slept through whatever fireworks and up around 0700.

Not a fan. Its another day on a cold, wet, dull and dreary time of the year

Trying to keep upbeat but its just not happening.

Quieter than usual last night round here.
Of course that’s not saying much due to the proximity of the Ash Ranges but the change from automatic weapons was almost pleasant.

I used to care but being a new dad and tired and it being week 12 I spent around 2 hours from 7 to try and get him to sleep last night, then we went down watched never mind the Buzzcocks Christmas special which was obviously brilliant. Sent new year messages, turned phone off and went to bed at 11:30.

Will do more in the years to come but not with a 3 month old baby 😬

Unexpected NY invitation from our neighbours who rented the village hall. Rules: bring a bottle, starter or dessert & contribute €10 for main course. I’ve kind of got used to French food and festivities but the ensuing meal lasted from 8pm to 2am (with intermittent dancing) and included:
Skewers of prawns with quails eggs
Jambon cru and cheese skewers
More prawns
Sushi (that was Chipps)
Various dips
Then someone showed up with a case of fresh oysters from the coast
Dinner (10pm) was a Catalan stew (boules de picolette) and cassoulet from an enormous pot that someone had clearly spent the day making
Then there was some mad frenzy with peashooters, streamers and general chaos After which approximately 15 artisan cheeses appeared. Because cheese is essential
And then half a dozen different tartes
And a tiramisù
We finally ran out of French at 2am and staggered home in absolute awe. Can recommend.

Had a lovely evening at home. Mrs CFSB and my step daughter baked and cooked all afternoon to give us a great meal.Kept the cats company and locked them in so that the onslaught didn’t freak them out too much. Was in bed by 23.00.
Not that I’ve never had boozy partying NYEs, just doesn’t work for me anymore.
At midnight though, when the fireworks started, couldn’t help but think of those poor folk in Ukraine, lying in the dark and praying that the next big , pointless bang wasn’t their last.

Yeh, you say that....up till just after 2am, stone cold sober, fetching and carrying teenagers from various parties. Now tired as a dog knowing they'll be getting up in another 3 hours and trashing the kitchen again

Can’t be arsed with it these days + we have plague in the house.

No fireworks around our way thankfully. Anyone who was out last night will have been woken up by the almighty thunderstorm we had about 8am
