Anyone got any idea of the cost ? and what do they check at the genius bar ?

I don't think they do, do they?
IIRC they have a one cost payment/swap out policy for a refurb'd unit
EDIT: You don't have the timer running constantly (used all my battery until I noticed it had been running for x number of weeks) and regularly close 'open' app's? My 3G 2-3 years old and battery still as good(/crap) as day 1

ebay batteries are hit and miss even the ones that say they are genuine !
