[#6381580]

Picked up some 'Ultimate Hot Dogs' from Co-Op earlier, as opposed to my usual go to Hertas. They were not that cheap, and apparently 60% pork/30% bacon free range la-dee-da etc etc.

Cooked them under the grill for 15 mins, pack stated 12-14mins, at a moderate heat, yet when I cut them open they were pink in the middle. Nuked them for a further 5 mins, and still the same. Would this be due to the bacon/salt content, bearing in mind the pinkness was evenly down the middle, and not chunks of bacon within the sausage.

Just wondering if I have discovered a heat proof sausage, or it's just the way it should be.

May be a mute/moot point, as have already eaten them.

Some frankfurters will be pinkish in the middle (piggy in the middle) even when cooked.

pretty much all the frankfurters I've eaten have been pink meat inside. That said I think i've boiled them first.

Give us a review..were they tasty and better than the beechwood hertas??

They were very nice. The bacon really gave them a nice smokey taste. £3 for 600g/6 hotdogs, was pretty decent value as well.

The pink is food colouring. Check the ingredients panel.

Sausage update. Cooked the remainder in the oven for 40mins, as I forgot about them. On cutting open they looked like this:

[img] [/img]

So assume it must just be the bacon content giving them a pinkish hue.

*parp*

Did you know.....
Americans call a 'grill' a 'broiler'?

If not, you do now.

We're they hot in the middle? You shouldn't have to cook a sausage for 40 mins! They'd be dry as a bone

As I said, they only should have had 25-30, but I forgot about them. They were not that dry as it goes. Guess they must have been quite fatty.

What have I told you about putting your sausage in the toaster?!? For crissakes, we had an awkward enough evening at the ED after you fell while hoovering. 😐

Boiled sausage doesn't sound appealing TBH.

You're not supposed to cook those wurst type sausages by grilling or frying; they are formulated for heating up in boiling water so that the brown colour of the skin and the pink colour of the mush inside remains unchanged. It's a cultural thing, a wurst has to look like a wurst. British sausages are made with sugar so that they caramelise and brown fast and lots of fat inside to cook the [s]lip, nostril and udder[/s] meat.

Frying or grilling a wurst is as wrong as boiling a slice of black pudding.

RTFM..

These are not Wurst/Franks. They are in the style of...

These sausages, which are now in stores nationwide, are made with British Hampshire breed, outdoor-reared pork, and have a Frankfurter texture whilst being made from 88% meat.

At least I got the coke bottle removed at the same time.
