Although we don't face such things here, the story raises questions about the extent to which we have a right to curtail natural activities for the sake of our domestic lives.

We've been doing it for 5,000 years, and have altered almost the entire planet, why stop now?

We are part of the natural world.

It's our nature to strip the planet of anything we like to further our needs/desires. Although we may exterminate ourselves in the process, that said I suspect we stand a fair chance of being the Cockroaches of the Mammalian world.

Plague of Locusts wasn't it?

Saxonrider, I lived in Winnipeg for a year or so back in the 70's (i was only 4). Loved the place, people were nice.
Went back in 1990, still liked it a lot. Wolves though, eeek! Mind you lake Winnipeg is about the size of England isn't it?

@bigyinn: Holy smokes, I can't believe you have been to Winnipeg. I didn't think anyone had outside of, well, Manitoba.

That said, I am glad you liked it. Although I grew up there, I left in 1994. and have only been back a few times to visit, and not at all in the last 13 years. My in-laws still live there though, so I get the news.

That said, growing up, it wasn't often that wildlife - other than racoons, deer, and coyotes - affected the city, but there was an incident in Beausejour (just outside of the city) when a child was stolen from her back garden and killed by a bear. Sometimes, nature just can't be contained.

And yes, Lake Winnipeg is almost the size of England. At least that's the way I tell it! ๐Ÿ˜€

I think a simple solution to this would be put some titanium chainmail on a pair of Irish Wolfhounds and keep those in your yard. ๐Ÿ˜€

"They'll play like dogs, trying to lure the dogs towards them," said Trainor. "Both of our dogs held their ground and stayed by the house that night, but it was a moonlit night, and I could see the wolves jumping around out there trying to get them out of the yard.โ€ฆ As soon as they're out of the yard, that's when they'll get them."

From that article.....Put a fence up? Genius.
