Managed eventually to get some concert tickets for my partner as a present, currently on presale. The tickets I have state no resale or transfer.

Out of curiousity, I went on Viagogo, and there are tickets for sale. I am assuming all presale tickets have the same restriction, I also note some say trader on the listing.

So how does this work? How are people selling tickets that they don't physically have and that can't be transferred? Or I am missing something here?

Because the majority of tickets sold now are e-tickets, all of the gigs bar one I’ve bought tickets for this year have been e-tickets, which are mainly just a QR Code, sometimes with a barcode, but some, like Ticketmaster, have an active component which means the code pattern constantly changes, to avoid people taking a screenshot.
A ‘passive’ QR Code can be passed on, but obviously it can only be used once, because the scan will flag up if someone has used it before you.

A Ticketmaster ticket can be sold on, but only through their own system.
