[#5730542]

My eldest son saw it from the car on Tuesday just after sunset, he knows all about it and he's only 6! He has literally been bouncing off the walls since- he's never seen anything like it before.
So let's hope it makes it round the sun today, so far so good it seems.

Anyone else excited?

Thought it was an early morning object, getting closer to the Sun (up to now), and doesn't become an evening object in the northern Hemisphere for a few more days yet (if it survives) ?

Nice bright thing to SW around sunset is Venus (but don't tell him) 🙂

Best, assuming it gets really bright, will be in mornings 06:00 onwards.

Maybe start looking Sunday morning and through the week, in the SE.

Good luck with the clouds...

🙂

The Geminids can be very good if the comet is a no show. 🙂

as above, that was almost certainly Venus.

unless your son is a telescope?

Great links Kit!

What is somewhat worrying is that its 3 miles across and if it had arrived 3 months later it would have smashed head on into the Earth! 😯

Oh well, it would have been spectacular. Lets give it another couple of hours to make sure though!
It seems my son did see Venus- but I'm not going to tell him. Blissful ignorance.
He thinks he saw a comet and I can't p*** on his parade, it's got him all excited about astronomy and that is awesome!
