Just heard this on the news

Does anyone know how I go about finding out more information? My Girlfriends brother went out to chamonix on Sunday to climb.

Both - serac triggers slab avalanche.

French rescue services bloke stated they were killed by a slab avalanche, he said as a result of recent fresh snow.

D'aprรจs les premiers รฉlรฉments de l'enquรชte, il semble que ce soit un alpiniste qui ait fait partir une plaque de 40 centimรจtres d'รฉpaisseur accrochรฉe ร  mi-pente. Un amas de neige de 100 mรจtres carrรฉs sur 2 mรจtres d'รฉpaisseur a รฉtรฉ formรฉ par l'avalanche, prรฉcise la prรฉfecture.

Just a slab. I went the other way, was it the idea of crossing the "cursed mountain" that put me off.
