as a student i shouldnt be getting taxed,

however i currently am, and am owed around £300 so far (£300 that i really really need right now)

do i have to wait until next april to claim that money back or can i do it now (or when i finish work for the summer in a few weeks?)

Try calling [url= http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/index.htm ]HMRC[/url] - they're surprisingly helpful about these things. (EDIT - not meant as a JFGI sort of response - they have actually been really good when I've called with self employment/VAT sort of questions)

Check here: [url= http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/incometax/stop-work-refund.htm ]HMRC[/url]. If you didn't fill out a form at the beginning of the summer hols, then you just need to complete a different form and send off with your P45 once you finish work.

If you're sure you won't be earning any more this tax year, then a rebate will be easy (I did this a couple of years ago). I'm pretty sure there are other ways of getting tax back if you may work again, but as thepurist says, give them a call ... I've always found them really helpful.
