CityFibre will shortly be connecting my local neighbourhood so was wondering if anybody on here uses them?

My only fibre option at the moment is Virgin Media and currently still using ADSL broadband so a move to fibre would give me a massive speed boost.

I've no idea on the CityFibre packages or prices but guess that will become evident shortly - but any experiences appreciated.

Cheers,
GQ

As I understand it Cityfibre are in charge of the infrastructure and getting the cable in the ground, third party service provider's will still be who you have your broadband contract with.

Looks like either Vodafone or Zen will be offering it here (Ipswich). I am currently on Zen fibre 80mbs and have asked them to contact me when they are all set. Vodafone broadband has some customer service issues that would discourage me if they were the only option.

Just had it installed in Milton Keynes. The install went painlessly, the guys were good.
Now i've got 500MB up and down.Currently paying £25 a month compared to £41 from BT and only getting 50MB.
Only bad point is i'm having to deal with Vodaphone which i swore i'd never do.

So far so good tho.

Thanks all, some useful info here. I'm currently with Plusnet but heard nothing from them so suspect another service provider will be in touch.

£25/month sounds good for 500Mb - my broadband is a pitiful 10Mb down and up is painfully slow.

£25 a month shows how crap virgin pricing is. Not city fibre but our local fibre (toob) is £25 for 900mb synchronous compared to £50 with virgin for < 100mb.

The full fat synchronous, close to 1Gbps is £40 a month with Zen who are not known for their bargain packages. To further show how poor the Virginmedia pricing is.

That's a decent price as well. Can't wait to be shot of VM. Not that I'm counting but 44 days till full fibre installation.

CityFibre dug up half my road without permission three weeks and ago then pissed off, so I wouldn't hold your breath that it'll be available any time soon.

I'm in Milton Keynes and when city fibre dug up the footpaths in Wolverton they didn't make good properly and as a result my cellar was getting deluged in heavy rain...thankfully the neighbour sorted it with some tarmac stuff he got, still might swap over from BT though.

TBF that was their contractor, they look to be the co-ordinating & funding organisation for the works. There was an oversight failure in your case due to a rogue sub-contractor.

Here there have been rumblings about the street works and making good in neighbouring towns. We had the same when NTL tore up the footways too.

They've been digging up Cambridge for months, for some reason they've done the neighbouring streets but not ours yet. I contacted them via their website to register interest and they said the service will be via Vodafone broadband. We've just left Virgin and moved to Plusnet, so tied to them for 18 months now...
