This group of friends obviously wasn't to everyone's taste but the fact that Moyles was able to generate this feeling of bellonging and empathy amoungst his fans certainly isn't because he is a "bit of a dick".

Is it because they are then?

Chris Moyles is the champion of Chav radio, good riddance, now how do we get rid of Steve Wright on Radio 2.

I have the misfortune to work with R2 on all day. Sometimes the phone appears to offer brief respite - only for me to find that the bike shop on the other end also have no discernable taste. After careful consideration, my proposed solution would be to ram Patrick Kielty (an utterly pointless individual with all the charm and charisma of a sloth's flange) right up Ken Bruce's ar5e. I'd then take the resultant amalgamation and force it straight down the throat of Steve Wright, before feeding the lot to Brick Top's pigs. I'd also feed Simon Salad-Cream to Vanessa Feltz in the hope that she'd choke on the lumpy-faced twunt.

R2 is exactly like R1 was in the late 70s/early 80s and I hated it back then. It certainly hasn't improved in the intervening 30 or so years and neither has my loathing and contempt mellowed either. As for Moyles - if he turns up on R2 I'm going to drop-kick the company radio into the River Holme. Bunch of ba5tard5.

There's always been a split camp where moyles is concerned. When I was in the workshop yearsvago we had mark and lard on and me and a couple of others loved it and chortled all the way through the show ....while the escort cosi brigade on the other side of us were shouting turn this shite off......but they loved moyles in the afternoon....and we grimaced our way the show.
His leaving has been a long time coming for me.

What annoys me is that ALL radio is people talking in the mornings. There's no station I know of that plays music

Arrow (interweb only) does. Non-stop - no adverts or anything.

Whilst we are all very much entitled to our opinion on this it is important to remember a couple of things.
1. He had around 7 million people listen to him every morning. This does not include under 14's who don't get counted. This is a lot.
2. The Radio 1 target audience is under 25, if you are not under this age there is an argument to say you shouldn't like him.
3. His show kept running for longer than any other radio 1 breakfast show. People liked him otherwise he would have been sacked long ago.
4. There are hundreds of radio stations out there, why are people listening to him of they hate him so much? Ignore him, don't listen in the same way you don't care about or listen to hundreds of other stations. I just don't understand how he attracts so much anger here.

I'm going to take a guess and suggest that very few of the haters are Radio 1's target audience. Moyles isn't trying to interest, entertain or make you laugh, so it is little surprise he you don't like him.

edit - great minds lunge

He could be a total tool but IMO the last few years of the breakfast show has been entertaining, I only listen really from 6.30 to 7.00 and the banter with the team could be very funny.

I am a bit stuck as to what to listen to, haven't got DAB in the car so what to do.

Listen to Wake up to money on 5 Live, then the first half hour of 5 Live breakfast show then to Moyles. Chris Evans is a no no, local radio is just full of awful ads. I may be grumpy for a while until my routine gets reset.

In light of my comment a few lines up I would actually say that I have preferred him to other R1 dj,s recently (Zane Lowe , mills, and most annoyingly fern cotton) and although I'm still no fan he has possibly mellowed over the years. It was in his early years (when I was target audience age) that I hated him...he was such an arrogant knob and not really funny....and as for comedy Dave !!!
