i am looking for a new hard drive for my computer as the old one went down the pan last week, was thinking of getting one of these new solid state ones (ssd) amazon seem to do 128gb ones at about £180 anyone know anywhere that does them for any cheaper?

also i would love to know of a forum like this but for computer hardware/software as would mean i would have advice on computer problems to hand... just like i have the advice of all things bike related on here!

All SSDs are not equal. Cheap ones aren't worth it over a HD. 128Gb for £180 sounds cheap to me...

I'd strongly suggest Overclockers too.

I put up a thread requesting advice on building a tower with a specific budget (and a list of the processes I wanted to use the system for) and in under an hour the was a link to a shopping basket full of the component parts to within pennies of my budget (inc. delivery).

Excellent service and support! 😀

Go for one which supports TRIM, probably best bet are the X25 Intel SSDs but they're expensive but blisteringly quick (I have the 80GB version)

Have a look at Scan.co.uk
I use them all the time. But I do tend to go and pock the bits up.

As for SSDs have a look at the OCZ Vertex / Crucial M225.
Basically the same drive but rebranded.
I have one of each and they are very quick.

I could explain more, but I'll direct you to articles on anandtech.com as they're very comprehensive.

I also have a X25, crucial M225s or any other Indilinx based drives are also very good.

I've had good mail order service from Scan before, and they're very helpful/quick on the emails when you have a query or need to tweak an order.
