my 19 year old son has got his first car and is now looking for insurance,. He's passed his test!

I know it's going to be expensive but are there any cheap insurance companies out there?

cheers

in a word no, insurance is all based on risk, so age, location, milage, driving exp. are all taken in to account along with the age, engine size and value of the car.

expect to pay around £1500 a year, I passed 3 years ago and i am 33 my insurance is £950 on a 2008 1.4 fiesta with 3 years no claims living in Middlesex

Has he done passplus?

That might help bring it down.

Cheapest insurance with my first car was through Ford Insure, with Endsleigh a close second.
All depends though - I think you just need to ring around...

It will all depend on what companies have the lowest rates for your particular area / model of car etc, so impossible to say which one will be the best. Try a few price comparison sites and also Direct Line.

If you really don't like what you see, take a look at a telematics scheme like Coverbox or Insure The Box. He will need to fit a tracker box and he will be penalised if he drives like an arse or late at night, but may well work out cheaper.

Have a look here:

A good friend pointed it out the other day, might be a good option

Some places (the AA? maybe) are offering reduced rates now with the caveat that you have a tracker fitted. Might be an option.

Personally, I'd say that if you've bought a car without looking at insurance, you're Doing It Wrong. But it's a bit late now I guess.

Agrees with Cougar - surely you find out how much insurance costs on a particular model before buying the car.

What car has he got?
