Any plumbers about? I have a cellar converted into a kitchen (it was converted when I moved in). There is a pump to get rid of the water from the sink and the washing machine. It has started making a very brief pump noise every 60 seconds or so - with no water running through. It was even doing it after I had been out at work all day and therefore 8 hours + without a tap running. Can I do anything to fix it myself? Is it totally broken or fixable?

Thanks

Sounds like your giffer valve is screwed mate. It's probably taken the worm drive with it too. It'll cost 800 quid to fix. I can come round in three weeks to sort it or if you pay an extra grand I'll get on it tomorrow...or the day after. It's doing more damage the longer you leave it mind.

I had a similar problem with mine. Took it apart, which is dead easy, and found that the pressure switch was knackered. IIRC I found a local distrubutor for the pump who supplied a replacement switch for about £10
