My cat has started moulting a silly amount, there's cat hair EVERYWHERE. Any tips on how to reduce this? She's a house cat and doesn't go outside.

Oh, killing or getting rid of the cat is not an acceptable answer!

I don't think you can stop the moult. Have you tried brushing her so that the fur ends up on a brush before it has a chance to fall ?

I have tried brushing her but it didn't really help, I'll try a better brush as mine wasn't great. I think that there are some cheap knock-offs of the furminator on ebay so may get one of those!

I've also heard that food can make a difference, any opinions on that?

Regular combing is about all you can do I think.

Shave your pussy.

TBH, regular grooming should help a lot. Animals shed in summer, brushing / stroking will remove loose hair so that it's all in one place.

I can't see how food would make a difference as moulting is a pretty normal and natural thing. My vet has recommended that I give my cats a tin of oily fish such as tuna or sardines once a week to help reduce the build up of fur balls though - I'm much more concerned about fur balls than the fact that the little furry ****ers insist on lying on any article of clothing which they find.

Thanks Ernie, I think that I'll start giving her a tin of tuna each way, I agree fur balls are rather more concerning than hair everywhere!

You should try my Spaniel, I've had cats all my life and I've never known an animal shed as much fur as he does!

I just have to take him out side and brush him every other day to keep the fur down in our house, otherwise my other half nags me to death 😉

It's that time of year when they lose the winter coat. Try stroking her with a rubber glove on. You will look like a pervert but it helps loosen the fur before combing. I find the best combs are the metal ones (rather than brushes) don't worry so much on cost of it they all so the same. If she's in season she will drop more fur too.

The Furminator isn't a normal brush.

I feel your pain.

Just attempting the yearly de-catfurring of my house (spring cleaning) and might be easier to just re-carpet. Missing my nice wooden floors in my own house, made life so much easier. She is just one little cat.

I brush her every night but I am sure it makes it grow more !

At this time of year our cat gets brushed about every two days.

I'll send my dog round, soon stop the moult 🙂
Seriously second vote for a furminator, they cut though the top coat and comb the base coat, get a genuine one though and the smaller size for a cat
Suggest doing it outside though, there will be fur flying everywhere

What does the genuine furminator get you over an imitation? I read the bit on the site about why not to buy fakes and it wasn't overly convincing, except the bit about certain metals but I'm not sure how much difference that actually makes?
