Situation: After moving in together, my girlfriend and I now have four cats in a small house. The space is too small for them all and they fight. There is a big garden that they like to go in to, however we have to leave a window open or let them in/out the door. This means they can only really go outside when one of us is home. The simple answer: A cat flap. It's complicated Sadly, it's not quite so simple. There have been problems with a couple of neighbourhood cats coming in to the house when the window is open and attacking our cats, eating their food etc. One of our cats is very nervous and this leads to a few days of it pissing everywhere in the house to re-mark its territory. One of the "bad cats" even attacked my girlfriend when she was sleeping and scratched her face etc! A real brute. I've super-soakered it in the face and smacked it on the head with a wooden spoon which it just ignores. Can't quite bring myself to hoof it in the puss as tempting as that would be. So have been looking at microchip controlled cat flaps however reviews online are somewhat mixed with issues reported: They break a lot They malfunction (in one case leading to breaking the bones in a cat's tail!) They are noisy (not good for nervous cats - see "Marvin Piss Pants" mentioned above.) So I was wondering if anyone had any experience with them. Are they alright? Are they useless contraptions? Are the folk on the internet moaning about them a bunch of bed-wetters and I should just buy one?

Taken the batteries out and hope it recovers.

Wiped all the surfaces (to makes sure sensors are clean, put the batteries back and it's working normally.

yep mine needs a good clean, will do it when I get home from work. She never wipes her paws before using it to come in! 😂

Installed out PetPorte in 2011, still works fine.

Quite tough too, the sensor bit which sticks out has taken quite a few knocks over the years and still works.
