Haven't asked insurance company yet but just thought I'd ask here incase anybody knows ? I am thinking of getting a small van (berlingo, kangoo, partner etc.) as my seats in my car are permanently down to transport my bike . When I renewed my car insurance they asked me if my 10+ years no claims discount were earnt with private car or commercial vehicle ? They were earned with private car so I was just wondering a few things: can I get a van and still use them no claims ? Can you class a van as private car if your not using it for business ? Also if I get one and then decide to go back to a car can I still use the no claims again ?
Hi BB
I've just done something similar (am now the proud owner of a T5!), wasn't a big problem at all. You can call any kind of vehicle your private personal transport, but be aware that some insurers won't provide cover for vehicles classed as commercial vehicles. Having said which, there are plenty of companies that will provide cover, a quick Google on "compare van insurance" worked a treat for me.
No problem using my car-earned NCB either.
Good luck!
