I was thinking of something like this....
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/used-cars/mercedes-benz/slk/used-mercedes-benz-slk-3-5-slk350-7g-tronic-2dr-oxford-fpa-201602201234271?logcode=p

Bit of a hairdresser image but a lot of car for the cash, and I bet its a blast to drive.

Unfortunately not. The 350 is rapid, and very competent but certainly not fun

Olly - that VTS looks brilliant! I think the Saxo has about shaken off the boy racer immage now, and i agree about it being a future classic.
When was the last time anyone saw a proper chaved up one?

Thanks.

That's not mine. That's a general Google pic. Mines the same colour combo though.

They will stay cheap. Everyone wants the 106 gti which is identical but goes for far more money.

Love my vts.

I loved my Capri's - favourite being the 1.6 Laser I had Caprisport put a 3.9efi V8 under the bonnet:

I found a mint shell for it to make it perfect, but alas it never got to see tarmac again...

Quite aptly I bought a car in the colour 'inferno' orange to replace it. It was a very competent performer and I spent a stupid amount of money on it, but I still hankered after something with a V8.

At least it didn't didn't go up in a blaze and got sold on as it was too impractical.

Having had a love affair with MK2 Golf GTI's in the early 90's I'd like to find a oak green 16V & make it mint but most have been saddly scrapped.
A MK2 escort Mexico in white was fantastic & now very rare & then a MK2 venetian red MK2 RS2000 with fishnet recaro's which I sadly rolled to death.

So later in life I'm looking around & whoops the wallet self combust's on a BMW M3 CSL coupe Sports Light Weight E46 that I could not drive to save my life but by god it was awesome, crap to park with it being SMG & the cost of the front carbon bumper was 3.3K so it had to be reversed into car park places which was fun.

Quicker than a Murcialago & 911 turbo on topgear in the wet on it's ludicrous slicks as Clarkson called it.

Thorney motor sport talked to it with laptop to smooth out the power but the engine was so highly stressed it was a very minor tweak at 365bhp, noise was a awesome sound track, I've got pictures on pink bike under the same name, bought at 14K miles sold 3 years later at 17.5 & now site in a collection in Belgium.
I've thought about replacing it but to put a grin on my face like it did would take some doing.

I've thought about a RS4 avant but don't see the point in a powerfull estate that plummets in value quicker than peaty going DH.

Having come from bikes from an early age, most cars seemed a bit slow and dull. This was the first car I bought and owned with my own money at 21-

[img] [/img]

Then I moved to Wales and a year down the line bought a W123 280e for a runaround as the Chevy did 8mpg.
Got bored with the standard Merc and had hydraulic installed.
[img] [/img]

This was an £80 runabout that I decided to spend no more than £80 more on making it look less shite.
[img] [/img]

Partial success. Most humourous was chopping the rear coils (in situ) and then realising too much had come off and so leaving the fronts. 1/2" of rear travel... PX'd for £50 against an LS400.

Bought this, which the g/f hated.
[img] [/img]

3 months/3000 miles later and an oil spill on a wet DC saw it no more.

[img] [/img]

I have to say it was a superb car; economy ranged from 28-32mpg and it was comfortable and quick. A lovely drive.

Bought a couple of these a few years ago now. Tracked the silver one , had it remapped to 185bhp , and it was pretty quick once fully stripped out .

Like many others, I had a long flirtation with a Mk2 Golf 16v.

For many, the ownership experience was a pleasure, for me it was expensive - by the time I sold it, it had gone through two oil pumps, a water pump, a radiator fan, coil, two horns, three fuel pumps, a full set of suspension bushings and new dampers.

In all that time (60k miles) I only ever wore out one set of brake pads/discs...

In truth, I bought a bit of a pup. But if I won the lottery, I'd buy another and have it restored to as new condition (plus a couple of sympathetic mods to the induction system) and kept in an air conditioned garage.

The only other two cars I'd ever cherish over and above a minter Mk2 would be a Golf Limited or an Integrale.

I've only ever really bought cars that were fun. Civic FN2 making way for M135i. Both great cars (except when it snows 😀 )

[img] [/img]

Actually the bimmer looks a bit gawky from that angle. Whereas the Honda looks mean.

Jontykint: Looks lovely - that's been my dream car for ages. Are you expecting the prices to crash once the M2 becomes available, though?
