Mol - my car (and probably most cars) has an "economy meter" - if you floor it, the mpg drops to under 10mpg! No throttle = "infinite" mpg. Stick the cruise control on and go up a hill - weird to stay the same speed but watch the mpg plummet. Simple things please simple minds...
In the Prius, if you floor it going very slowly up a hill, the meter goes down to 3 or 4 mpg 🙂 Not for long, of course.
There are several videos on Youtube of people driving their Priuses flat out at the limited 108mph - some through traffic which is bizarre) but none of them look down at the MPG display. I'm guessing mid 30s at that speed.
I have just seen this article and thought I would see if this debate is still going on - it is so take this!!!
Surely a great way to run our cars and stop methane which (I believe) is one of the worst pollutants although not sure how practical it is in reality - I bet someone here knows though 😉

It's a great way to run cars, but like all these things there is nowhere enough available to make a big difference.
One car can be run from the output of 70 homes. 70 homes means proabbly 100 cars... So 1% of our domestic transport needs.
Has anybody seen this small gas turbine developed by a company on the IOM, the turbine runs an alternator to charge onboard batteries.
I believe Jaguar are now involved.
