Folks I need some help here.

Could you recommend anyone that can remove/repair wiper scratches on car windscreen please.

I got some wiper scratches on my windscreen so would like to remove/repair them but before I attempt to DIY, I prefer to get someone professional to repair/remove them for me here in the North East.

I spent ages googling for professional in the NE only found two with so emailed both, but none return my email or call me back (left telephone number). I just called one of them again so this time lets hope they will return my call.

I am surprised it is so difficult to find someone willing/able to do this sort of repair.

Most can repair windscreen chip but not many offer windscreen scratch removal or restoration ... a bloody niche market this.

No go to have anything to do with insurance ZM bureaucrats.

I would rather pay everything myself then to affect my 3 yr NCB.

One of the guy rang up so will come over for a look to see how bad the wiper scratches are. Hope it's not too deep ...

The windscreen scratches was done by previous owner not me but when I bought it I did not see the scratches.

😮

p/s: FFS people! Please keep your windscreen clean and wash your car's undercarriage during winter time ...

You can usually claim for one windscreen replacement in 3 years or so without affecting your no-claims. Replaced the one in my last car after it failed the MOT (cracked up the centre) through the insurance and all it cost me was £60, far better than the £380 it would have cost and kept my 6 years' no-claims.

I do keep my windscreen very clean indeed, it's my obsession. I hate dirt on the outside and that grey plasticiser film on the inside as obscured vision is dangerous especially with a low sun.

Have you tried polishing the scratches with car polish? It's a fine abrasive so ought to do the job. Or look on car detailing fora for products.

Ya, only if you stay with the current insurer but if you switch insurance company they will ask if you have made any claim before. You have to answer yes even if the previous one does not affect your NCB. Then the other, assuming a another insurance company, screw you without you knowing. It is the way they ask the question. Have you claimed before? It's either yes or no answer no ifs or buts ...

I recently spent 5 hours cleaning my car including waxing as I doubt the previous owner did any. I do this every 4 months as I don't drive the car very often. Plenty of scratches on the bumper which appeared for no reasons and stone chips ... dammit.

Yes, tried that but no luck. Was thinking of DIY but I need to order some cerium oxide, felt buffing wheel, rayon pad (different grade hard, medium and soft) adapter for the drill and buffing wheel pad (the one the pad stick onto) then borrow my friend's drill (if I buy a drill at Clas Ohlson it will be another £20). Total cost £30 without drill.

The guy just quoted me £50 for the job and he specialises in all glass scratches removal ...

I can do it myself but it is not easy as I lack the experience especially the pressure required for the polisher ... too hard or too hot (friction from polishing) the screen might be damage or crack ...

I am just surprised that there not many people are doing scratch removal for windscreen. Repairing stone chips or crack, yes but not removing scratches.

Edit: if you polish too hard or too deep you might create lensing effects ... arrghh ...

Yeap, trying polishing it for the last 2 hr ... no luck.

They are not deep scratches but no amount of hand polishing could remove them.

I just noticed the previous owner used a shorted wiper blades which, I think, may be the cause of all the arc scratches. I think the shorter wiper blades or wrong specification may put undue pressure on the tip of the blade as the pressure was not balance.

My new wiper blades are much longer.

Damm ... 😮

If the previous owner was in the habit of driving close behind trucks on wet muddy roads, the windscreen will have got sratched pretty quickly by the wipers. I think worn out wiper blades will have had a similar effect as they don't wipe the glass clean, they just smear everything.
