Is it possible to ensure a car so it can spend more than 30 days away from UK? I'll need it covered for possibly a year and don't fancy selling it.
Anybody has any experience of it? Thanks.

I did this a year or so ago, IIRC the deal was we were fully covered for 90 days abroad, then the cover reduced to the minimum legal requirement for the country you were in at the time. Back in the UK the car was still fully covered. I'd have to check with the Mrs how it all worked/what company.

I believe that any car insurance Europe wide is now valid with the the minimum legal requirement for each country 365 days a year. Nobody seems to shout about it though as they want to charge you more. The only reference I can find is the AA here

"In fact, every UK car insurance policy allows the minimum level of cover required by the law in the countries you travel through – normally third-party only."

This is what I did. I had a crap car anyway so wasn't bothered about fully comp.

"Wherever you are travelling in the EU, your car insurance policy will automatically provide the minimum cover (third party liability) required by law. This also applies to Iceland, Norway and Switzerland. If you have comprehensive insurance at home, check that the cover extends to travelling in other countries"

Check whether it covers residing in a foreign country rather than just travelling. When I lived in Italy there was a big problem with the issue of the proof of insurance stamp that is displayed in the car. It was basically a protectionist stance from the Italian insurance industry, but we legally had to be insured by an Italian company.
