[#10357175]

Haven't hired a car in years as I usually drive to the alps but we've got some cheap flights to Geneva at easter so need a hire car.

Can anyone recommend a decent car hire company that isn't silly expensive but isn't going to rip me off when |I take it back?

Always use Europcar. Never had an issue, just book cheap option and ask for an upgrade when you get there. I’ve always managed to get a vag dsg 4x4 and never booked anything other than the base option.

Depending on your arrival time I’d be wary of the cheaper options they’re not much cheaper and I’ve never seen anyone on their desks at the airport...

Is the whole french/Swiss side thing still an issue? Last time i was there I hired from the french side as there was some issue with a Swiss side car being taken into France.

Cheers, reckon i'll have to book at least a mid sized car as we have to fit a couple of snowboard bags in. but might be cheeky and see if an upgrade is possible....

I use alamo. But register and then book on the US site for alamo insiders as you get much better discounts abroad.

The CH FR thing isn’t an issue. I’ve been renting Ch cars and taking them into France last while with nonissues

We use Europecar but register for priority club that way you can walk past all the queuing plebs and get served 1st.

Swiss cars can go into France no bother but you’ll need to sign a waiver,   French cars need a Vingette to drive on switz motorways however but tend to be cheaper to hire so depends where you’re going.

when the plane lands, if possible don’t mess around, walk straight out and to the car hire desk before everyone else grabs their bags and beats you there.

cool, i'll probably drive the back way into to France to Samoens so wont be going through the big motorway border. I assumed you get the vignette with the car anyway??

On a Swiss car you do, on a French car you don’t.

If you're staying off the swizz motorway pick your time as Geneva traffic is atrocious out to annemasse or towards Thonon. I also use europcar. Word of warning you MUST have a credit card to hire now. They won't take debit card as Italian thieves were nicking cars on empty bank accounts.
