seen what a full grown red deer does to a car? I only saw the aftermath, oh and the deer still in the middle of the road surrounded by bits of car! The driver would, going by the mess, had no windscreen, defective bumper, fluid leaks, but rather than move the carcass they appear to have reversed, then driven round it?

These days it's the bloody Roos I have to worry about. Driving from dusk to dawn is a somewhat sphincter tightening exercise here!

I'm somewhat astonished at the number of people who are clearly ignorant about cats and their habits.
Demanding that owners stop their cats from running into roads is roughly like demanding that the Middle East stop fighting among themselves. Totally doomed to failure.
If a cat wants to go out to play, hunt, socialise with friends, or screw his fluffy little head off, it's nigh on impossible to stop him/her.
Some cats are indolent, lazy buggers, but most aren't.

CountZero -- I think the point that the non cat owners above have been making is that;

If cats are as you describe, and cannot be prevented from wandering the streets and killing themselves on the roads (really? you live in a house with no doors?).

Then cat owners should try not to get all animated, preachy and judgmental when their little furry poo machines never come home.
