So after 4 years I have the lens error a brief Google talks about. Repair is approx £150. Would I be better buying a new camera? I liked the g12 as there was no faffing with lenses. Havent looked since I got my G12.

You'd be better off just buying something else at that price.

This is a common problem with Canon compacts. If you get it fixed now, it will probably break again soon.
I don't think its worth paying pay £150 for a repair.
You could probably buy a used G12 for about £150 (maybe with a warranty).
