@IHN Sorry to hear that, he looks like a proper good boy. My mutt would have liked him by the looks of it too, he was a handsome chap.

I constantly think of the time coming with my idiot, but also cannot even comprehend the mess I will be when it does come to pass.

A week last Sunday we took Woodie for a nine mile walk around Shutlingsloe and Macc Forest and he loved it, bombing around as usual.

Then he was a bit under the weather the week after. A few back and forths to the vet, an ultrasound and a CT scan later showed he had a brain tumour that had spread to his lungs, any options were palliative, and he had weeks at best.

Last Saturday Woodie was put to sleep.

Oh mate, so sorry. Only met him the once, but he seemed like a lovely dog. Shout if you fancy a cathartic roll around on bikes some time, my knee is just about normal again and it would be good to catch up.

@ihn

sorry for your loss, I’m sure Woodie and Bert are sniffing bums in doggo heaven right now!

I know it wont help now but Im 9 months on from loosing Bert in pretty much similar circumstances and one thing I take solace in now is that he was full of beans until a week before and his illness was mercifully short.

Didn’t see my doggos* last week due to being away on holiday.

Lola demanded a tummy tickle, Buddy found some fox poo and threw himself on it and Tucker was all excited to see me again. I borrowed him for the rest of the day and had a nice afternoon. He’ll be coming home with us soon.

@IHN sorry to hear that. Outliving your pets is a bugger for sure. Worth it for the time you have together, but doesn't feel like that when you have to do the right thing however grim it is 🙁

Nearly a year has passed since we were close to losing Lola. She's all healed now but increasingly derpy 😉 And her partner in grime is still waiting to receive a second braincell. We're not hopeful 🙂

Here's Gus, black & tan Jack Russell. My 2nd JRT, I love the breed. So easy to live with, great with the kids and full of character.

Bruce has got friends now. We booked a secure field for a greyhound birthday party. He wore a hat (and genuinely didn't care!)

DSC07872.jpg

We would normally do a walk, but the Billy (who turned 8) has recently had surgery so I took a big bed and made him a sunshade out of a bike work stand, a pole and a bed sheet.

DSC07886.jpg

We had a whole field and any hound that wanted to explore could. They chose to all sit together and get fuss from the human staff.

Another one that has just lost his doggy here. Toffee had a heart murmur and arthritis but had been plodding along for the last few months on a cocktail of meds. Last Wednesday she was struggling when she woke up but she brightened up during the day.Thursday was worse – she got up, said hello, then immediately laid back down and started to poo herself. I took her straight to the vet when it opened and they said she had a fluid build-up around the heart which was stopping it from pumping blood properly. They said we could have the fluid drained and it might give her respite, but it could be months, weeks or just hours before it built back up again. So, following their advice, we decided to put her to sleep. We took our girls out of school (almost 17 yrs old), and the four of us (and our other little dog) were with her as she fell asleep for the last time.

@johndoh Your tale and picture there have just made me cry. She looks like she was a lovely girl; it's never easy but be glad you made the right decision. I hope you don't dwell on it for long.

Excellent, some brighter news. What made you change your mind? You had some fair reasons not to a few weeks back.

Sorry about the losses. But look at what they got to do while you had them. Lovely set of ears on toffee.

Lola is celebrating her gotcha day today. She's just farted at me it was pretty offensive in volume. Extreme body confidence...

Probably should've read back a few pages. My bad.

@IHN & @johndoh, there are no words that ever seem good enough. It ****ing sucks losing dogs. Big love to you and yours.

Sadly dogs are only here for a good time, not a long time.

When we got lola she was seven and she had as far as we are aware never been left off lead and was quite capable of being a **** to other dogs.

Lots of learning from us and 4 years later she gets to unleash playful pup whenever she plays nice.

Had a scare this morning, My dog Sandy jumped off our bed straight into the end of the door that was sticking out into the room! She then preceded to pee on the floor, then poo on the floor whist wobling and swaying about. She then went to go down the stairs but fell down a few, clearly concussed.

I picked her up and took her downstairs and sat on the sofa with her. Then  she started throwing up, put her on the floor to have a drink of water and she was still swaying. She then laid on the sofa drooling, whihc she doesn't normally do (the drooling, she's always laying on the sofa!!)

Took her to the vet as soon as it opened and got her checked over, by which time she'd perked up a bit and was taking treats off the vet. Vet said she seemed ok but keep an eye on her and bring her in if she changes at all, they could do an MRI scan.

I'm now in the office but my wife said Sandy is ok and has been for a short walk, she doesn;t do long walks without me generally anyway, just refuses!

Scared me a bit this morning and I can't wait to get home for some cuddles.

Hope all is okay with Sandy.

In our case, both dogs continue their journey to the "Derp-Side"

A year since Lola's big op. That was scary times.

She seems all good now. Back to normal really, chasing birds she'll never catch in the field....

She was definitely playing the poorly card last night though, trying to get treats!! Obvs we gave her more than we should have...

Tucker trial!

Have borrowed him for the long weekend to see how he gets on. For starters I think we might need a bigger sofa!

His zoomies are a problem though - we have wood floors throughout and his big long gangly legs are like a new born deer and he’s ended up careering into stuff. We Tucker proofed the house in readiness and MrsRNP and I are a quiet chilled household so hopefully the zoomies are something he quickly develops out of.

To be updated……..

Once they've skidded into walls and stuff for a week or so, they understand to moderate the speed a bit off-carpet.

IMG_5981.jpegIMG_5976.jpegIMG_5938.png Last night was hard work, Tucker was overly tired / over stimulated and struggled to settle. He’s going to be though - 18months ago he was on death row and then since in Bleakholt.

Lot more chilled today.

MrsRNP has borrowed an XL cage/crate so we’ll see what happens tonight.

Sprocket is very definitely not a hot weather dog, cue 6am walk this morning and one very happy GWP doing pointer things in the cool of the early morning while yours truly fantasised about a bacon and sausage barm and a flat white. His itinerary for the rest of the day reads 'sleep/cold things/more sleep/more cold things' and repeat. Mine may well include the above barm and coffee. Sports nutrition, innit?

it was MrsRNP! Tucker ended up on the bed with me…….

Kept him cool today!

House is empty again without the big goofball now he’s gone home after his trial. It wasn’t straight forward and we didn’t expect it to be.

Got some work to do on our house with sorting out a work/office area to make into Tucker space.

Have a meeting booked for Saturday with The Dogs Trust behaviourist who visits Bleakholt.

Taking a break from cooking next to the firepit using a handy rock for a pillow.

First ride in a pinzgaur for lola.

Campsite only accessible by 4x4 or walking across a river. 6 pitches, dog friendly and a river to swim and play in. Perfect.

This one's useless walking in the heat, but happy to lie in the back garden sun, if only briefly

20260526_144125.jpg

(Yes, I know, I scalped it a bit short couple of days ago. Ive sharpened the blade, and raised it since then)

After a lot of vacillation, the little nutter finally dug himself a nest in the corner of (what used to be) a flower bed. Turned his nose up at a cooling mat with added fan, several cold tiled areas, grass and a doggy paddling pool first. He's now back inside on his raised bed dreaming about chasing bunnies. It's 30˚C or something out there. GWPs love a bit of impromptu gardening, sigh...

We have a raised bed which apart from a few peripheral herbs is slowly becoming a caldera with a lava coloured furrball in the bottom.

We've been walking ours early and late. 8am this morning, just a lap of some local woods. They definitely needed a run but I'm glad it's done before it get silly hot again. Walked them last night just as it was going dark. Still felt pretty damn warm!

Remember the heatwave three or four years ago, when it got into the mid thirties? Well, this was our then dog finding himself a nice cool place to have a lie down...

He was Spanish, to be fair, I think it reminded him of home...
