[#1571688]

Looking to pick up a second hand Mac (no k/b or mouse) to experiment with. Running 10.5.8 if this makes any difference (shortcut keys?). Found one article on Google that says yes, but not much else so far.

PS Windows k/b and mouse are both USB

Yup,

I do - no issues apart from the @ and " are swapped around.

That is really, really annoying...

Excellent.

Is there any way of re-configuring those two keys?

Cheers

Have to say it doesn't bother me, but there are free apps to remap keys out there - I used one when I had a broken key on my Macbook (which was fixed for free before any Mac haters come in with 'it just works' ๐Ÿ˜‰ ).

Can't remember the name though sorry.

Experiment with country settings for your keyboard. US/UK switch usually fixes that.

Yes I run both on mine without any issue.

The windows key becomes the Apple key and F12 is the eject button (I think, been a while since I last used the system)

That's weird, I used a PC usb keyboard with my Macbook for a while, the keys were in the right place.

Anyhow, I think Ukelele is the tool for remappaing keys in OSX.

Worth getting an Apple k/b at some stage actually. Things like the media control keys are useful (sound mute, volume, disc eject), and there's a few other keys that do stuff, and Apples use the Apple key rather than ctrl for copy+paste and that.

This keyboard I'm using now is 10 years old and has been proper battered (Apple Pro Keyboard). Still working fine. Dunno what the new ones are like, but they look nice.
