as above, looking for a small second hand run around car, tescos, gymn etc.

Got an A4 estate and dont want to put loads of miles on it and myself and Mrs organic have conflicting sports classes on various nights of the week, yeah i know i could bike to them but not ideal with winter coming up and carrying rackets, gymn gear etc.

So anything decent that can be had for under a grand? Golfs, polos, renault clios? etc

I will have an old Corsa for sale in a couple of weeks. 1.5 TD, 1995?
Mail me, if you are interested.

I sold a perfectly good ford fiesta for £600 once. A 1.2 zetec engine one, it was about 8 years old with 65k on the clock. They are great and very cheap to run. Recomended, although the rear view mirrors allways fall off.

My first car was a 1.6 Proton Persona, 9yrs old, cost £200.
Lasted 12k miles before the headgasket went, scapped it and got £60.

£140 for 12k miles isn't bad! (Had to spend £40 on a new tyre for it once though...)

Decent size car for not much cash. there is a 2.0 diesle version around too

You should have no trouble finding a car for that money but can I just give you a little shove back to cycling there. Its easy to think of the problems (winter weather, carrying kit, etc), been there done that, but once you get into a routine its pretty easy.

Pug 306 turbo diesel -1997 onwards for under a grand. You don't need to worry about engines as they go on and on but you just need to check the steering, suspension and electrics.

I'd get a Fiesta 1.2 zetec just like the guy mentioned above.

Quite nice to drive too.

Insurance will be the killer. Probably cost the same as a half decent bike (or a decent one on the classifieds)

For under a grand?

Considdered taking a motorbike test? Useless in the snow, but less effort than cycling.

Factor in tax, insurance, maintenance and depereciation, how much will a couple of extra gym trips a week in the A4 really cost?
