I don't really suffer from hayfever, although I have been known to sneeze a few times when the pollen count is really high.
This morning I had a shortish ride and felt a bit wheezy. Like I'd had 40 Bensons last night or something.

Is it likely to be HF or should I lay off the bong for a bit?

I suffer from a tight chest when pollen count is high but I dont think the pollen count is very high at the moment. Could be Swine Flu I would start panicking now

the guy who sits opposite me with the streaming eyes and swollen face might disagree with that.

Air quality took a turn for the better in the last few days for me no problems up the hills last night.

Last week was not so good. Thursday night and Friday morning both had me in flem city.

pollen count i find it high.

I do suffer from hayfever, sometimes pretty bad, but its mostly my sinuses and eyes that get it. Breathing wise, I dont find my V02 max is affected, I can still hammer it along, but more that if i'm working really hard I get a bit of a wheeze afterwards.

Sorry terrahawk I shouldnt assume the pollen count is the same everywhere I am on the coast and its blowing a hoolie so the count is low for me.

Back to your OP yes if the count is very high you can get a tight chest I have a spray from the doc for when its bad it just loosens things up a bit

I'm suffering at the moment; I think weather man said pollen count was high at the weekend and I felt rubbish riding on Sat but might not be related....

yes i had tight chest, shortage of breath - doc told me i had asthma and gave me an inhaler - a couple of years later it got real bad during a spring trip to scotland - went to see another doc - hayfever - took antihistamines for a few years now MTFU as used to it and avoid heather when flowering as is worst thing for me - eyes get sore but very rarely sneeze

Terrahawk - you can always do what the pro's do to help you through the 24 hours. Take some 'off the shelf' medicine to ease the wheeziness/hayfever and be completely shocked when you find out it's also stuffed full of performance enhancing substances.

Hayfever has been shocking the last 2 weeks, it really is a major pain in the ar*e. Its like having a constant low level cold, always diffcult to decide whether to ride or not ๐Ÿ˜
There were a load of riders had to bin the Tour de France last year because of hayfever so it might just seem like sniffles if you dont have it, it is a total c*nt if you do ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

The only asthma attack I've ever suffered was a by product of suppressed hayfever symptoms, weird I know! I was camping and woke up in the middle of the night gasping for breath and very tight in the chest, stumbled to the toilet block and managed to calm down and sit it out. A doctor friend who was there at the time said he'd suffered a very similar episode when the pollen count was v.high, whilst taking hay fever tablets he didn't sneeze etc but an asthma attack developed. He ended up going into a chemist and self prescribing asthma drugs with a pad he had in the car!

I have had hayfever since being a kid, sometimes the air can feel like beathing syrup which is a little disconcerting. Generally now I just treat the symptoms, Optrex for the eyes, Sinutab for the nose, does up & go with it.
The medication is cumulative so worth taking regularly rather than just when the symptons hit.

After ride pink eyes is the worst thing. Looks like I have been crying for hours (& it has nothing to do with me being slow & scared)

My youngest has a tight chest and is wheezing like an old steam pump. Never had HF but there is a virus doing the rounds, symptoms sound exactly like yours.

Exactly the same for me. It started last year - doc gave me asthma stuff which made no difference, did chest x-rays (no probs). Nothing helped until winter came and it went away. Spring - it's back again!
Not tried antihistamines as it more annoying than bad.
I only get chest tightness/cough though, no itchy eyes or running nose symptoms at all.

there's a cold going arround the office at the moment that has the same symptoms as hayfever, maybe you just got that?

Could well be reducing lung capacity, all that snot/mucus you sneeze out in the day is drawn into your lungs overnight and takes 2-4 days to remove itself.
