Looking to replace my old dead Mk 1 sigma 24-70 2.8f (canon fit) with the new HSM version. Sparse reviews vary widely. Any real life experience? just wondering if the sigma is still as good as the old one or if the sun flare / peripheral colour issues are as bad as people make out and I should suck it up and buy the canon L series?

Cheers

The new canon 24-70 is outstanding, I hardly used the old one as it was not good enough quality for client work but I have shot a few ad jobs with the new one. Worth paying the extra.
Saying that not tried the sigma but I guess it's not the new version for crop bodies? That is meant to be very good like the new full frame 35 1.4

Very. Been repaired once after it was involved in a snowboarding incident where the auto focus ceased to function. Now after a few years of use / abuse it won't auto focus and crunches through the range.

Manual focus ring is fine. Zoom ring is rachety. Barrel holds position ok. That said I haven't seen it for a while. I'll be on he same continent as it in a couple of weeks so I'll have a look for you.
