Wife has decided she wants to take better pics than our compact.

Some vouchers to be used in Jessops.

So, Nikon P500 or Panasonic FZ150?

We have looked at DSLR's but TBH she probably won't need that level of precision nor the ability to change lenses either.

There's some good reviews here:

http://www.photographyblog.com/reviews/nikon_coolpix_p500_review/

with links to alternatives, as well.

I have no direct experience of the two cameras, but based on a quick read of the reviews I would be erring towards the Panasonic. And I say that as a fan of Nikon stuff.

I am just hovering over the buy button of a FZ 150 too I disregarded the Nikon as during fast continuous burst shooting you lose the view in the viewfinder which would annoy me

Fz has better metering IMO

Some good info here with real original images that you can download
