The only person I know personally who has given their bike a name (and references it constantly) is without doubt the most monumental bell-end I have ever met in my entire life

Feels odd to me, but I'm not sure I'd make harsh and angry judgements about someone ant throw poo morph jism-ing their bike.

There's nothing wrong with giving a bike a nickname.
My old Stumpjumper is referred to as Stumpy, mainly because iits an easy name to shorten, my Superlight is just "The Superlight" though.
Attributing a gender to a bike is too far though. The same applies to cars.

I call all my bikes 'the bike' at home.
It helps avoid awkward questions about the number of names there are available to say.
I always refer to my bike as a 'iron' or 'rod'......no idea where that comes from.
I tend not to use names (any more), rather terms of endearment.

I also have Hilda (a Blur named after my grandmother), Dolly the Dolan winter bike, The Tough Lad (my crit race bike), The Rat (a road rat), The Soul (erm, a Soul) and The Dingle (a rigid single speed).

Naming inanimate objects is weird, especially with female names. Someone I know names all his guitars with female names, and not even nice ones at that, I just dont get it. Mine are called "my bass", "my les paul" & "my sg".
My old Bullit did have a name though but not my doing - some guy in Whistler was obsessed with it and called it The Werewolf Slayer as it was a silver bullit. My one bike related regret is not keeping that bike as well.

I think naming your bikes displays your capactiy for imagination and creativity... Mine are known as Giant, Commencal, Kinesis and Orbea. occasionaly known as ** or *-** or ********** depending on their ability to keep me on the trail or to come apart/go back together easily during a maintanence session.

I call my bikes after old lady friends, is that wrong? Saved me a few times when my wife told me I was talking about my bikes in my sleep. She did ask why I had one called Colin though.
