Am I being a whiney cockbag, by letting people referring to their bikes as laydeez, annoy me? We're not talking rage inducing levels of annoyance, mind, more the feeling you get when you reach the last biscuit in the pack.

...but you have another pack in the cupboard.

The only person I know personally who has given their bike a name (and references it constantly) is without doubt the most monumental bell-end I have ever met in my entire life

I know what it's called, Cougar. I even put as much in the tags.

My spelling might have been off, tho 8)

It is better or worse than referring to it as a "weapon"?

Feels odd to me, but I'm not sure I'd make harsh and angry judgements about someone ant throw poo morph jism-ing their bike.

"Sugar tits" is a nasty sexist term though, wouldn't like to hear someone calling their bike that.

Slightly worse, on a par with calling it a "whip".

I used to have an old American Jeep called Dolly, after Dolly Parton, due to it's big headlights.

I can't even bring myself to say what my other half and her kids call their bikes but she doesn't do shopping or cushions so is forgiven.

I've called you it several times. To be fair the other times you were sleeping.

On a sidenote, I meant to edit out the sugar-tits, but now too late to do so. So if mods want to edit. Go for it.

There's nothing wrong with giving a bike a nickname.

My old Stumpjumper is referred to as Stumpy, mainly because iits an easy name to shorten, my Superlight is just "The Superlight" though.

Attributing a gender to a bike is too far though. The same applies to cars.

I call all my bikes 'the bike' at home.

It helps avoid awkward questions about the number of names there are available to say.

I always refer to my bike as a 'iron' or 'rod'......no idea where that comes from.

I tend not to use names (any more), rather terms of endearment.

'Beautiful'
'Lovely'
'Good Lookin''
'Sexy...'

😳

My bikes all have names... They are, after all, my surrogate children.

Except my best road bike which is known as The Porn Star... I suppose she'd have to fill the wife role... Not that I'd marry a porn star...

I also have Hilda (a Blur named after my grandmother), Dolly the Dolan winter bike, The Tough Lad (my crit race bike), The Rat (a road rat), The Soul (erm, a Soul) and The Dingle (a rigid single speed).

Shirley that's fairly normal, no?

It's a term of endearment, what's the problem?

I actually have no problem with it.

Calling it a weapon or missile is a wee bit sad though

Anyone who describes their bike as a weapon should technically name it Charlene.

Jamie, you are quite right here, it is for bell ends.

Mine are all simply known as steeds - one "for road work", another "for commuting duties" etc.

This is cool.

Jamie

I feel exactly same.
The more of your threads I read, the more
I think that you and I could be internet friends.
We could even use special names and a code that nobody else can read.
What do you think Fluffy ?
😛

Naming inanimate objects is weird, especially with female names. Someone I know names all his guitars with female names, and not even nice ones at that, I just dont get it. Mine are called "my bass", "my les paul" & "my sg".

My old Bullit did have a name though but not my doing - some guy in Whistler was obsessed with it and called it The Werewolf Slayer as it was a silver bullit. My one bike related regret is not keeping that bike as well.

I heard a bloke a Afan ages ago call his bike a "rig"

He was wearing a cap at a very jaunty angle though (which is always a giveaway ) My chameleon is called Charlie, Charles when it needs a talking to.

I think naming your bikes displays your capactiy for imagination and creativity... Mine are known as Giant, Commencal, Kinesis and Orbea. occasionaly known as ** or *-** or ********** depending on their ability to keep me on the trail or to come apart/go back together easily during a maintanence session.

Coincidentally, seeing a bike referred to as "she" makes me approximately as uncomfortable as the superfluous commas in the first sentecne of the OP.

I call my bikes after old lady friends, is that wrong? Saved me a few times when my wife told me I was talking about my bikes in my sleep. She did ask why I had one called Colin though.
