[#12043247]

Got a stag in Brum next this Friday and Saturday.
Looking for tips to stealth van camp as near central to New Street and bars and don't mind a jog/run/walk in.
Any tips for good areas? Parks or quiet spots recommendations not miles away....

Also, any good clubs/bars that you guys recommend?

Thank you please...

When we go out on the canals, we leave the car in Freeth St. No parking restrictions, 10 mins walk to city centre, which can be done along the canal. Only done daytime parking there, so no idea what it is like at night. There are a number of roads in that area which have no restrictions, Cope St. is another we have parked at.
Be aware that Brum now has the air quality charge active, so if you come off the ring road to go into the centre, it will be £8 per day if your vehicle doesnt qualify for the exemptions.

Edgebaston Reservoir car park may be a good shout. Used to run there when staying on West Street for work.

Could be a grade A dogging spot though as I never went there at night.

Take a tip from the local campers.

Biggest army surplus jacket you can find, Greg's coffee, 2l bottle of frosty jacks and develop a repetoire of things to shout at pigeons.

A bit late probably, but we did a stag do there and between 24 of us hired 2 12berth canal boats for the weekend and cruised in from somewhere just outside (Evesham or Tardebigge maybe?). Moor up in Gas Street Basin - perfectly placed for all the action.

Thanks for the info guys. I appreciate it. The bloke 'organising' it has been poor. I love the idea of the canal boat as a base!
Thanks for the van parking locations. I have a look.
Is there much vehicle crime in and around the centre (or where I'll park) at night? I have an 2006 plate van. Just don't want it keyed or broken into.

Yeah, the canal boats worked well. We started from Alvechurch, not Tardebigge or Evesham (miles away!). We only had a few folk arrive on Friday night, so local pub and curry. Then everyone else arrived Saturday morning and we cruised in via a pub lunch. Only a few hours cruise in, but we had an engine fire in a big tunnel that added some time. We had some mechanics in our party so fixed it ourselves. Then a big night out and a cruise back on the sunday via some hair-of-the dog stops.

Alvechurch was ideal as a start as it has a station, so no need for any driving at either end of the weekend.
