Afternoon all,
I had a bad crash at a BMX track 10 days ago while out riding with the kids. Took a berm way to fast and the 29er took off on a roller and I didn't make the next one. Fell hard on my left hip and arm. Both healing well but hip is very stiff and I am walking like a waddling duck.

I can ride a turbo trainer which is good news but just thought I would ask if anyone out there has had a similar injury and how long it takes to heal?

Cheers
Geordynige

In my experience internal bruising can take quite a while maybe 3 or 4 weeks to get normal again

Thanks Trumpton,
That’s kind of what I’d read online but I was sure there would be people on here that have experienced it ! Never had a hip bruise before & it’s interesting how the body works to protect it.

I had to have a load of fluid drained off my hip a few weeks bace, I made a thread.lol

The fact you can ride the turbo (I'm guessing without any undue pain) is good.

Due to the huge amount of swelling I had (oo-er) and the fact the pain wasn't subsiding I went to A and E twice where they did X rays and Ultrasound the second time and drained the fluid.

I'd say that as long as it's improving gradually your probably ok mate. If in doubt though, sooner you get to A and E in the current climate, the better. Topical use of ibuprofen gel is probably a good idea too.

Heal fast mate.

I properly battered myself on some rocks a couple of year back (KOed briefly). Riding a bike gently was OK after a couple of days, but I had a couple of weeks walking round in inadvertant circles as my left hip didn't work properly and a good 6 months before it felt good as new again - I spoke to my physio about it a couple of months in and she reckoned I'd bruised the bone and it would take about that long to sort itself out.

Thanks guys, so glad it’s coming into winter as don’t think I’ll be back on the mountain bike for a few weeks! I’m going to try a little road ride at the weekend and see how it goes.

Bit of an update fellas, limp has pretty much gone which is good news as the limp was giving me left knee pain. Arnica gel seems to be helping with the bruising dissipation. Its now that fine balance between doing too little and too much!!

I'd tell you about haematoma but I can't spell it

I was taken out skiing by an out of control novice snow boarder, who took my legs out from under me. I fell on my shoulder on icy ground and at the time thought nothing of it - expected some bruising etc.

Anyway, bruise was so bad it caused bone odeama (sp), which caused a tendon to detach (50%), 9 months of rehab and about 1 year to get full use back of my shoulder!

Although I said 3 to 4 wks which I find is usual I recently bruised my foot getting out of bed with a numb leg.my leg collapsed and my full weight went through the side of the ball.has taken over 8 weeks to be completely normal so it can take longer.

Same here. Road ride early Saturday am and front wheel washed out doing a full lap of a roundabout.

Hit the deck like sack of spuds, single car behind me and they just manouvered around me and drove off.

Seem to have got away with it luckily but have a bruised hip and some mean road rash. Likewise though, I feel like I can cycle OK so trying the turbo tomorrow anyway.

That's timing. I had my worst MTB accident in Sunday. Thought I'd try and get a load of height on jump at end of ride. Pre loaded and tried to boost as much as possible. Must have used pedals a bit too much as my foot came unclipped as I launched. Landing hurt like hell. On my hip. Smashed helmet on ground too. My hip is very swollen and bruised. Been numb around there since Sunday. Get shooting pains when slightly stretched. Ribs hurting if I cough. I've been on pain killers and am totally gutted I'm missing out on my hiit classes and cycling+running.
I'm giving my injury until the weekend. If it's not any better, I might go to hospital, but don't think they'll be able to do much? Don't want to get covid either lol!
