I have a laptop which is out of warranty but needs done attention. I can't find any of the discs which came with it. Can I just take it to a shop to get fixed or will they insist on me having the discs and a copy of the OS with it?

Have a look on the manufacturer's website, you might be able to order / download replacement discs.
