As if by magic, one of my bulbs has gone
Can anyone recommend a H7 dipped beam bulb that is bright with a reasonable lifespan?
The same thing ^^^ happened to me. Decided I wanted some better lights, went for the blue/white upgraded ones and, not more than about 18 months later, one of them has popped. Luyckily I had the original ones still in the van and it only took a moment* to switch out the dead one for a still working standard bulb.

One of the things to look out for with upgraded/brighter halogen bulbs is how much quicker they can fail compared to bog standard cheap ones, and how easy it is to actually fit them, potentially at night at the side of the road. Last few cars had easily removeable headlight units (a V70, V50 and a Mk2FL Octavia) and it was very easy. The wife's Golf Mk6, no chance.
Have you considered going to specsavers?
He's not wrong as eye focus in the dark is slightly different and can lead to a different prescription to daylight to shift the focus back to the retina.

that was me too on Saturday night, front n/s main beam bulb gone, it's a 2012 Fiesta, pop the bonnet and try and wrangle the old bulb out and get the new one in without damaging it... what joy :-/

Having just changed a left hand Fabia headlight bulb this week, you got off lightly.
Seems for most people step 1 is remove the front wheel....! I managed to remove the battery, scrape and batter my hands and swear like a trooper. After about 15 minutes of not getting the new bulb to click in, it just seemed to fall in!
I bought two bulbs, but none of my house hold can budge the right hand bulb holder. Seems like for the right hand side, many people resort to full bumper off and headlight unit out....
Edit: the crazy thing is that even as a non engineer I look at the overall headlight unity and can see a very easy solution to the issues, but for some reason Skoda have chosen to ignore it....
I wish I had my old Volvo back!
but for some reason Skoda have chosen to ignore it....
Mk1 Octavia's had the headlamps on a drawer runner type arrangement, I don't know about other models

That sounds complex and additional cost, which the Fabia is not compatible with.
My solution is to replace the 'flat' rubber access covers with 'domed' rubber access covers, so reducing the 'wall' around the light fitting a few cm.
I don't know how I got a double post up there
Anyway, H7 bulb purchased. I'll fit it when it arrives. Osram Nightbreaker 200
