I made the step between my two floors and although it's made from hard wood I think a strip of brass would help to preserve the edge.
I had a quick look online but I couldn't find anything longer than a metre. Rather than have a joint can anyone suggest where I might find a strip of brass five feet long and about an inch and a half wide. Something salvaged would be a bonus.

Brass keel strip may be suitable. Speak to the Bosun's Locker in Port Edgar (Sth Queensferry) they may be able to source.
