Gift for the good lady - she enjoys a glass of Bombay Sapphire to wind down at the weekend, and thought she might appreciate something a little different for Christmas. Any suggestions?
Professor Cornelius Ampleforths Bathtub Gin.
any other gin i've tried is by comparison, quite frankly, shit.
Professor Cornelius Ampleforths Bathtub Gin.
I really wanted to hate this as it looks like hipster bollocks however it is actually very lovely.
Professor Cornelius Ampleforths Bathtub Gin.
I'm buying a bottle of that just for the name!

god knows what it's like by itself but they make a nice Nagroni in the bar
So far Brockmans is the best gin i've ever sampled. Would like a try of the 'Professor Cornelius Ampleforths Bathtub Gin' though!
+1 to wanting to try Professor Cornelius Ampleforths Bathtub Gin
Quite like the look of this

They do a Botanicals one as well
Only £115 for 720ml of largely not very nice gin...
copped a bottle of this for the good lady recently - Scottish gin, in a particularly nice bottle IMO:

My father was fulsome in his praise for this one, which I bought to help numb the pain from his recent knee op:

she loved it Aye. I bought a bottle for the Mrs and one for a mate. I don't think the mate will ever see his 🙂
I have gins on tasting all the time, these are the ones which have had good feedback recently:
Mason's lavender
Opihr spice
Chilgrove
Sipsmith
Thomas dakin
But the bathtub and botanist mentioned above are excellent also
The best gin out there (for actually drinking): http://www.bramleyandgage.co.uk/PBSCProduct.asp?ItmID=11869984
There's a matching tonic, too, so don't ruin good gin with rubbish tonic.
I've a bathtub gin on the go at the moment
It's very nice, can't say it's changed my life or owt though
Williams Chase prior to that - also good
Din't rate that monkeybollocks stuff though
(If you can find some) Jenever might be a nice change for a gin drinker. Its the dutch predecessor of Gin - its a sort of younger, lighter, freshers tasting tipple. There are two kinds - 'old' and 'young' - but that means old fashioned and new style and refers two distilling techniques rather than ageing. Quite nice to drink neat rather than with mixers
Tends to be sold in quite unusual old fashioned ceramic 'bottles' which might be quite a nice gift-y aspect as well
I've a bathtub gin on the go at the moment
My brother bought me a bottle of this. Very much like it.
I bought this from amsterdam last month
Really good
I am a big fan of Dodds Gin

But for something different Ophir is lovely.
Ophir is what I bought last year on the Gin thread, it's rather nice.
PSA alert !
seriously, just found bathtub gin on amazon deals £22
Shirley for your typical STWER it's got to be Crossbill from Shed of the year?
Cheers Scaredypants. I had a bottle in my cart as a gift for my bil. Your psa just saved me a tenner!
Thank you.
+1 for the Edenmill, tried their Hop gin, mmmmmmm.
Any one that combines hops and gin is good in my book
I learnt about this stuff at the weekend.
Not tasted it, but it's apparently very good indeed.

A biking friend has been involved with Bedrock gin, based here in the lakes. Not tried it yet though!
They also do a vodka.
This,

its made by my friends Pat and Julie, it is exceptional.
It's gonna be whatever name/label you think the Mrs will like the look of. Nothing else matters.

It's nice when you can relate to something 8)
Conker gin
Thats the spirit!
Chase apple gin. Cant stand the stuff but have it on highest gin drinking authority its pretty good! Only single estate gin in the UK, whatever that means 😉

Plus 1 for forest gin. It's made by a couple and their daughter, in langley. I bought a bottle for my wife for our anniversary. It's really good. It's not cheap at 60 quid a bottle though.
My second favourite would be Martin millers.
After I've added tonic and ice to my gin, I'm pretty sure I couldn't reliably distinguish one brand from another.
It's gonna be whatever name/label you think the Mrs will like the look of. Nothing else matters.
You have it 🙂
Exmoor is winning on that score
After I've added tonic and ice to my gin, I'm pretty sure I couldn't reliably distinguish one brand from another.
I was of that opinion, in fact I didn't really much care for it - but a few different bottles later and I was persuaded!
After I've added tonic and ice to my gin, I'm pretty sure I couldn't reliably distinguish one brand from another.
Nah, there's a fair difference in flavours between different brands. Our run of the mill gin is Gordons, if we have a hendricks, bombay, botanics there's definitely a difference in taste.
not much mention of the tonic used in the above posts. I reckon decent tonic, fever tree and others, can make a huge difference to even a run of the mill gin.
After I've added tonic and ice to my gin, I'm pretty sure I couldn't reliably distinguish one brand from another.
Really? You'd have to have some very nasty tonic or no tastebuds for that to be the case.
A lot gins these days are pretty full on with their flavours. To the extent that there's a few which remind you that the difference between "Gin" and "Flavoured Vodka" is largely the age of the people drinking it.
