And recommendations for books on training / nutrition for it?

You could look up the Ron Hill books from 25-30 years ago to see how it was done back in the day.
He managed 2.09 which the modern Europeans would be well pleased with....
Try "Training for the Marathon" by Cliff Temple. Think that's the correct name for the book.

Just started this, hoping it'll get me off my arse and back running regular again.

Ron Hill was a better runner than a writer. If you want a bio Charlie Spedding's is pretty good. If you want scaring out of your wits Gilbert Tuhabonye?
I started with the NonRunners Guide to a Marathon or something and thought i knew better than it...
Ouch.
Next time i will actually follow it.
