Sick of hearing "Boaty McBoatface" on the radio today.

Was it even remotely funny or witty?

Really grinds my gears. Pathetic.

I think you need to take life a bit less seriously ๐Ÿ˜‰

Made me smile again, when I saw the story headline. OP go read the Gary Larson thread & lighten up (before you explode, I'm not suggesting they are of the same humor level)

It wasn't really supposed to be funny, was it ? just generally taking the piss out of the pompous bollocks that is "the system". You know, vote for something patently ludicrous and watch the politicians squirm as they try to work around it.

hang on; I've seen that somewhere else, I'm sure ๐Ÿ˜‰

I agree. its ridiculous nonsense like this that diminishes new reporting to the point where facts are seen as malleable and truth is whatever the person in authority feels like saying.

If 85%* of online journalism is click bait ad revenue populist nonsense it drowns out the important stuff and makes once great papers seem like all the other crappy websites

* statistic not verified.

Exactly.

The lesson is, if you crowd source anything on the internet, expect the lowest possible outcome. Don't assume your cause is noble and academic enough to only get serious replies - this is the internet.

And for that, it was certified hilarious.

They were even suggesting that it was funny that it's painted yellow. FFS. ๐Ÿ™„

The council are currently asking for name suggestions for a new road. Roady McRoadface has already been suggested.

They put a question to to a public vote and the public voted for a ill thought out and patently stupid answer.
Also they voted to call a boat Boaty McBoatface.

It was amusing, although neither funny nor witty.

It was a funny light hearted story floating in a sea of the usual doom and gloom.

People need to realise that 'The News' isn't some desperately serious thing that only needs to cover bad stories. It is after all, entertainment for people who think they're too serious for Saturday Night Takeaway, it's practical use is very limited.

"What do you want?'

"We want this"

"We don't want you to have that, so we'll ignore you and do what we want"

A recurrent theme in life

Wasn't there some other big issue recently where the idiotic public were allowed to express an opinion? Something to do with the EU?

I'm with the OP on this one. I appreciate what P-Jay has said, above, but at the end of the day, just found the whole thing childish.

It was funny in the same way a 3 year-old boy's 'poo jokes' are funny: at best it warranted a vague courtesy smile.

The name wasn't particularly funny.

The concept of the Internet denizens subverting the entire thing OTOH, that was bloody hilarious.
