Well, after trains and planes, why not another boat thread?
So, boats you've seen, sailed or lusted after if you please!
The utterly awesome Topper;

Mine was blue, with the blue/yellow/pink sail and I loved it!
This used to belong to some friends of the family. Glamour from a bygone age, IMO;

Me & my coracle on low tide manouveres last Wednesday...
German plastic sea-kayak meets Brtish Steel. Been piped aboard the famous yacht although never managed to sail on it mainly due to the (ex) 'skipper's' Rizla related distractions...
Same rules as for bikes - red is faster

We've got a Hunter 245 in the family, and it's awesome.
Plus, my dad built it from just a bare fibreglass hull as a retirement project. Respect!
OMG... if only I could afford such a thing...

+ 1 for the ady gil!
J class anyone?
That weed harvester cost £120,000 when it was new, cost nearly £200,000 to replace now.
Forgive my ignorance, but why does such a thing cost so much money? 😯
give me a net, a scuba mask and a pair of hedge cutters and i'll do it for £10 and hour with a bacon sarnie
Not to sure myself, they are all made to order in Germany and are a bit of a specialist bit of plant. Also a lot of steel involved in them, that one above weighs just over 12 tons dry weight and loads of hydraulics involved, also big old Perkins diesel engine slapped in the rear. I know a new front weed belt on the bed cost £5000, the rear belt is twice as big but doesn't get the abuse like the front. They also don't handle like a normal boat and can get a bit of getting use to and horrible to use if its windy as the wind pushes it to the side.
LOL fourcrossjohn 🙂
Built a plywood canoe a few years ago, gonna try a canvas skinned kayak this year.
Had the Zapcat racing come to this area a few years ago, mental little things.
Also had this turn up and set some speed record, can't remember what though. We also get the Round Britain Powerboat race come belting past here. Last year I was in a fishing boat with a mate offshore when they came past, insanely fast 😀
When working in Spain got chatting to a team who did the inshore F1 powerboat racing
They offered me a blast around the bay in the 2 seater they had but the weather was crap making the sea too rough to do it before they headed to Barcelona for a race and then out of the country.
as a 10 year old I got a stoved wood 10ft rowing boat (and dad knew an old codger boat builder) since then done canoe, punt, topper, topaz, lazer, dart 16 and 18, but really was a windsurfer, mind you 7 days of blazing sun round Crinan, Firth of Clyde, Sound of Bute on this bring back some damn good memories
Carbon - I always wanted a Melges!
Raced these as a kid:

More recently, this little puppy (we're in at front of shot, I'm trimming in this pic). Topped out at 17.5kts on a very windy last day of Cowes about five years ago. We survived and thrived, but the kicker blew up on the delivery back to Royal Southern and when we lifted her, the rudder had a nice big crack down the leading edge. 😳
And finally (before banking implosion and parenthood stopped the race programme and my sailing career), one of these:

A mite oversailed - very high aspect ratio rig meant a hugemungus kite. Rumour has it the Dutch would can racing for these if it blew over 26 kts. Our first sail was in 45kts apparent. A couple of us delivered GBR3569 from Dartmouth to Hamble in ten hours flat with just the main up at the end of the racing season. Shame she had to go.
aracer, you're a mighty athletic lass.... 😉
