I always get accused of only gloating about Man United's woes on here, so here's a positive one (is there a football thread somewhere I've missed?).
Pretty amazing to see Liverpool on top at this stage of the season, especially playing such pretty football. City must surely still be favourites but.... crikey....
I'm enjoying seeing Liverpool do well. As a Leeds fan, its yet another season of misery for us lot but I have a lot of time for Brendan Rogers. Like him and his style of football at Swansea...
YNWA!
Nice to see someone different at the top.
Next game will be tough - doubt the ball will be on the deck much as West Ham launch it up to Carroll. And he (and Downing) may have a little extra motivation too....
There's a little man in the east end who'll be a very happy fayn!
Quite a few neutrals seem to be routing for Liverpool, which is nice. They still have a lot to do to win it but whatever happens it's been an amazing season.
Refreshing to see the way they played today - the Sunderland game was edgy and it looked like they were tightening up but they came out all guns blazing today.
I hope no one will mind me expressing that I experienced massive amounts of schadenfreude at Terry's expressions after his own goal and at the end of the game. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. 😀
Yeah great that the racist cannibal suarez might sour the league by actually getting a winners medal
I'm a Man U fan and if we can't win (!) I want Liverpool to win so it ain't just neutrals... At the minute they're a pleasure to watch.
But Tottenham were absolutely awful ... the defence didn't even turn up
nora, you and he have a lot in common. Only thing is, he's shown he's not beyond rehabilitation.
We won't win it. But we barely expected to be in the top 4 this year. But at least CL will allow us to attract 'top top' players, had loads of snubs from players who went elsewhere for CL action in the last couple of seasons.
Leeds fan here and I would like to see Gerrard win it, he is a grafter and has had personal problems but is a bloody good footballer Suarez has his faults but there is no better striker in the premier league. And all those Man U fans remember Giggs is a good footballer but he still shagged his brothers wife
6 English players in the starting line up yesterday as well. Pretty rare these days.
Was it 18 months ago when people were saying "Brendan who?"
Then after a poor run, calling for him to be sacked.
Maybe Moyes will get the same results next year, and be lauded as a great manager rather than the abuse he gets from some quarters now.

I know it's just being realistic, but the competition is devalued by this attitude - whereby "top four" and the prospect of Champions League £ - is seen as an end in itself and pretty much as good as winning the league.
Liverpool will never have a better chance than this year, when they, alone among the big clubs, have not had the distraction of a European campaign.
They've been great to watch this year. I know they're hardly a cuddly little local club themselves but it will be good to see the oiligarch's playthings thwarted by them, if they do go on to win the league.

Strange how some like to differentiate between clubs owned by Russian billionaires, oil sheikh billionaires, and American billionaires.

My point being that being in the CL gives a great platform to build on, with increased revenue and the ability to attract the best players comes a realistic ambition of winning and challenging for the league every year. The hardest step was/is getting back into the CL in the first place. Liverpool and Utd have a British and global fanbase way ahead of other English clubs and our inability to attract top echelon players whilst not in CL illustrates how the football landscape has changed these days with players opting for big pay packets and CL rather than playing for the biggest clubs.
Double post.

There are plenty of differences in how the three clubs (assuming the other two are City and Chelsea) are run - financially as well as the reach of the owners' vanities.
The main difference seems to be the vanity of fans trying to convince themselves there is something special and deserving about themselves and their club.
There must be something in the water at the other end of the M62, as Everton are playing the same type of attractive attacking football too. Its certainly going to make the run in to the end of the season pretty interesting. You'd be a brave man to put any money on the top 4, in what order. Theres been some cracking football played this season!
Highlight of the weekend was John Terry's superb own goal though 😀
Whatever the outcome, it's been a remarkable 12 months for Liverpool, going from a team who struggled to score for the last several years to being the side you now expect to score 3+ every time they walk onto the pitch. Happily it is all of the side though that are producing the results, not just the great and quite frankly ridiculously talented Suarez.
The other brilliant thing from yesterday was the atmosphere. So many times you hear the away fans being by far the loudest at games, but yesterday the whole of Anfield seemed to be joining in the fun, it's been a long time since the days of that i can tell you.
Will they win it... i don't know you know... i still see holes in the defence that someone like City can absolutely cut through with ease, i see issues with Aggers pace, i see Skrtle as sometimes a liability (although he's been exceptional recently), i see Allen as an incomplete player and Henderson as still the unfinished article.
Flanno was bloody astounding yesterday, not just his tackling, but his positional play, composure and also his disribution.... fantastic perfornace from the youngster
Lets see where the next few weeks take us... it's a hell of a ride at the moment.
As a city fan, it's certainly squeaky bum time, even with the games in hand. If Liverpool win all their remaining games, it's their title, which is definitely not something you could bet against with any confidence, the way they're playing.
Brilliant to have a do or die fixture coming up at Anfield, it's been a great season.
The main difference seems to be...
I wouldn't say that's the main difference between them to be fair. I don't hear much of this from fans to be honest, but I guess if you really want to see that, you will. Anyway, I don't think I'll be changing your mind, nor do I want to, so I'm leaving it there.

This. It's dreamland for Liverpool fans for the team to have it in its own hands with six to play. I can't see them getting six points from the Chelsea and City games though...but that's just twenty something years of pessimism. 😀

I think Ageuro's injury may be the key to who wins, if he is back for the rest of the season I think it will go to city. It is funny to say about a team with so much talent throughout, but the are 2 or 3 players who when aren't there seem to have a physiological impact on the whole team, there still seams to be a mental fragility to city.
Where as realistically, looking at the teams on paper, apart from Suarez who is undoubtedly in the top 3 players in the world at the moment, Liverpool seams a much weaker team, yet they are just playing with such confidence and belief, you look at the remaining games and see them winning them all. Suarez is key, but I still think if they lost him for a game or 2 they could still win them all. They still play with the same intent when he is not there.
I can't even see City feeling comfortable going to Anfield at the moment Bravissimo. Theres a pony-tailed weak link right in the middle of their defence that Suarez and Sturridge could terrorise.
You may do alright against Chelsea though. Everyone must surely be looking forward to the return of the last striker that was as prolific as Suarez, who now couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo
Chelsea are going backwards, and City are still vulnerable away from home. And Liverpool are just getting better and better.
Too close to call. I hope Pellegrini doesn't play for the draw, but this doesn't seem to be his style. Could be 4-3!

It is in every thread about football, you may want to pretend it is not, but my first post here was a reply to such a comment.

I know - but it feels as if Liverpool, even allowing for the Andy Carroll/Sewart Downing madness, have had a wee bit less money chucked at them than the other two.
Gerrard is only one yellow away from a 2 match suspension too. Hope he behaves at West Ham (and that they win there too.) 🙂

If Chelsea use the same tactic they did (successfully) against city, they'll park the bus at Anfield. Hopefully they'll still be in the mix and need the points as much if not more than Liverpool.
they'll park the bus at Anfield
True. The only hope against that tactic is that Liverpool run at defences with such pace, that they end up winning lots of free kicks, penalties, opposition players carded, especially at home. Hopefully Coutinho will play the full game for that one - he's been perhaps the best recent signing at Liverpool (outside the SAS partnership).
Maybe Moyes will get the same results next year, and be lauded as a great manager rather than the abuse he gets from some quarters now.
Nah, he's doing a great job at the moment. Long may it continue!
And all those Man U fans remember Giggs is a good footballer but he still shagged his brothers wife
And Gerrard punched a DJ for no apparent reason.
Give over will you. Cantona assaulted a fan, Keane broke a player's leg on purpose ending his career, Rooney shagged a granny. This could go on forever. They are footballers. Some of them do very silly things sometimes. We aren't talking about that. We are talking about how well Liverpool are playing at the moment.
For me watching my team playing so well is fantastic. Even when we concede we create so many chances going forward you are confident of winning. I hope we can win the title but whatever happens it's been a fantastic season. Genuine optimism for Liverpool fans at last!
Why is this thread turning into what footballer did what? They are people that entertain on a football pitch and get paid crazy money and most end up living in big houses and are divorced from a normal life,of course some of them are going to be idiots with that lifestyle.Just enjoy the game for what it is,none of us are perfect are we :-).And Swansea will beat Chelsea to do Liverpool a favour 🙂

Oh, I agree. I just point out that it was unwise to suggest that Liverpool have some kind of moral superiority over Man U.

😆
Ok, that was funny.

Lucky no-one did that then eh?
I do think it's fair to say that both Liverpool and Man U have a slightly more respectable pedigree in terms of having achieved a great deal of their success without a foreign oligarch sugar daddy.
Just enjoy the game for what it is,none of us are perfect are we 🙂
Yup - unless all fans start doing some kind of moral audit of all their club's players then I think they can STFU moaning about Suarez being a bitey racist. Just enjoy the ridiculously good football he is playing.
liverpool six games from being unbearable again
Bring on the unbearableness 😀
Looking good for the Pool for sure
I guess it just a nerves/squeaky bum time
I cannot see many teams stopping them scoring
With the Sunderland game I thought the pressure was getting to them and I really suspected they might slip up against Spurs. I was very wrong though!
Mrs Binners noted, as the camera panned to a close up of Flannaghan yesterday, that since Peter Beardsley retired football really has been deprived of a proper bit of eye candy 😀
