They wouldn't touch ours either. However they appear to have been stolen now, I'm guessing there's a very fat squirrel somewhere ..

Wrong kind of birds? IIRC only certain birds like fat balls. Some like grains, some nuts etc etc.

Perhaps they need more carbs instead 😉

Try crushing your balls till they burst into little bits then present them on a tray.
Birds love that.

Is it OK to use duck fat for birds?

I get the occasional Blue-tit on my balls,(it is cold after all) the wood pecker loves them though, the tits seem to leave my nuts alone as well.

The tits(Great/Blue, and long tailed) love my seed. Sunflower that is.

Meal worms seem to be a favourite with those red breasted robins.

I gather you should make sure your ball fat is solid and not the slimy/greasy stuff as apparently the little tits get coated in it and then can't fly as well.

Or something

I bought a couple from Wilco last winter and after managing to get a piece of string through each instead of the netting the bloody birds ignored them, ungrateful little feathered ingrates! This winter I bought a half coconut shell filled with fat and stuff from a stall in the high street and suddenly the tits and sparrows go mad for it. Got three hanging in the tree now, along with a feeder with mini fatballs in which the birds seem to really like as well. No idea why the difference, can't explain why they like these and not the others. The goldies and sparrows really like the sunflower hearts and the blackbirds, chaffinches, goldfinches, pigeons and hedgehogs like the bits on the floor. The local Robin muscles in for his share as well.

No. See here.

I use lard, oats, raisins and bird nuts and the starlings, tits, wagtails, blackbirds, thrushes, robins and dunnocks love them.

I can't get birds to go anywhere near my nuts, & my Fat Balls are being mostly ignored as well. However,
The sunflower hearts don't last 5 minutes.

You need to break them up into small manageable pieces. I used to have the same problem and breaking them up solved it. They compress them too hard.
