Big increase in military flights

We were walking in the Black Forest about 10 days ago and a lonely, presumably Luftwaffe, Tornado flew overhead but really really low.

Tornadoes just look right. Like an F16, it just looks fast and aggressive even standing still. That massive tail and the angled intakes.

It's done well for a 1970's / Cold War design. I'm just about old enough to remember them taking over from the Phantoms and (original) Lightnings and certainly from the Jaguars.

I remember a holiday in Scotland as a kid where they were just a constant presence, ripping through the valleys and low over the lochs. It drove my Mum mad but I loved it.

Looking tonight on ADSB I see a small jet an Aero L159 Albatross with registration number G-DKND. It is currently on the move over the North Sea towards Newcastle. It looks like a military plane, but not in the RAF inventory. It also has a civilian registration.
Is it some rich mans plaything or indirectly connected to the Air Force? Are we now sub contracting our defence?.

I thought that Czech trainer at the top was one I’d seen up at Bruntingthorpe, but that one’s an L-29 Delphin, as below. I got to sit in the cockpit and go through the startup sequence; all I had to do was flip one final switch and it would have started up! 😁

Anyone got any thoughts as to why there's a WC-135R flying up and down the Baltic at the moment.

I was under the impression that their origional role was sniffing out Nuclear testing!

Interesting - they're "atmospheric testing" planes, so either a training run, or someone suspects something fishy has happened nearby....! Windy.com shows the winds are gently blowing from the East, so something Latvia / Lithuania based?

I thought they were aerials or transmitters not Stealth bombers?

Those 3? I think they're beacons/transmitters - possibly being calibrated?

UAE Air Force C17 cargo plane landed at Manchester earlier, I watched it on a live stream but the camera showed the Viewing Park absolutely rammed with onlookers!

Not sure when it's scheduled to leave. There's been a couple of them recently, the live stream commentary said there was another one due at the end of the week but I can't find any more info.

In case anyone hasn't been on the socials this week, Solway Aviation Museum have been gifted the very final Blackburn Beverley and are trying to raise 60k to ship it from Humberside to Carlisle airport.

I remember visiting this thing when it was at Beverley Museum of army transport. Bloody massive thing - a block of flats with wings.

A link to the just giving appeal. Other info on faceache etc

I live in South Manchester and heard it go over...instantly knew what it was. Escorting a passenger aircraft down to Manchester with lost comms I think.

Saw it as I was outside washing the car.

We're off to RIAT this year, first time. Camping locally, and we're booked in for the Friday, then chilling in the field next door watching the displays on the Saturday,

There's at least 6 B52s (3 pairs) flying across to fairford from Norfolk at about 10k feet. They are occasionally tracking and returning from night missions .

Keep an eye out if you're in the area.

There's a b52 returning from an operation over Peterborough at 10k feet heading for fairford. Keep an eye out if you're on their route as there are likely to be some following.

@pk13 - interesting, G-HHII was flying around on Thursday, it flew out of White Waltham, circled over a couple of small airfields up in the Cotswolds, then did several circuits over Chippenham, a couple quite low over my house, and did a barrel roll! Sadly I didn’t have my phone handy to get a photo!

Just been buzzed by a Douglas Invader.  Appears to have come from Duxford, looped overhead in Oxford then carrying on west.  seems to now be on final approach to Fairford

Unfortunately the military is fairly dull with callsigns.

Whoo, fun job, can you lob a few smoke flares or something over the carpark?

I heard them coming, looked out the window and thought they were putting themselves through the window....at really rather low level. It is Galloway in the late 1990's since I have seen plane and helicopter that low...

That's cool.

Mildenhall have F16s flying at the moment and there are some Canadian f18s about too, as well as all the usual stuff.

Given the amount of US and UK tankers tracking theres a lot up in the air lately.

Lots of jet noise over the last hour here in Northumberland, is it military does anyone know?

You do have two large danger areas off the coast used for 'high energy manoeuvres' and you're in low flying areas for both day and night so highly likely it's military.

There's an E2 Hawkeye tracking in the north sea. It doesn't show where it's taken off from. I've never seen one over here before. Makes me wonder if there's an aircraft carrier in the north sea.

Anyone know where they are flying from?

I answered my own question, seems there is a aircraft carrier in the north sea
