We currently have a laptop but due to my missus and I often needing to use a computer we thought about getting a stand alone PC as well.

As she spends a lot of time at the desk my thoughts were a full ergonomic keyboard and decent size screen would also make DSE work much more comfortable.

It only needs to be a fairly simple PC (not gaming or graphics work etc) but just wondered what the best places were to purchase from these days. PC world or is it much better to go via online retailers?

I'm lost what does the laptop not do, that a desktop PC will do?
You can plug a screen/keyboard/mouse into a laptop to get a more DSE compatible working enviroment at home.

Off-hand though I've not bought anything in a while, Dell of late has seemed pretty reasonable (when on offer) and are very solid if unexciting machines.

you could do worse than Dell

I'm not a fan of Currys/PC World but in many places they're heading towards being "the only shop in town". They're ok I suppose if you know exactly what you're looking for...

I tend to go to laptopsdirect for decent prices, they do desktops too.

Either that or if i have something specific in mind I'll use PC Specialist, who have built reliable machines for me in the past.

I've just replaced our old desktop with an ex-business SH Dell dual core Windows7 pc from tier1online, for £100. It's spot on.

Last one came from there also.
For internet, kids, office stuff they are spot on.

Nothing really, its just she has her own growing business, blog, website etc on the side so its just a case of us often needing to use a pc at the same time. So rather than buy another laptop I thought a PC would be better (and cheaper?) for the type of work she is doing.

That tier1online sounds promising thanks takisawa, I shall investigate
