So on the road this one, a friend thought it may be OK to try and ride his fixie without a helmet.

He is ok, but does smart. I recently hit a vertical angle iron head first it made quite an impression on the lid but apart from a sore neck I was OK.

A friend of mine smacked into a low concrete bridge, no helmet - forehead smacked straight into the beam. He was a right mess, they had to initially lift a section of his skull to reduce the pressure then pin it all back together.
He was on a fixie too ...hmmmm...

Darwining worthy
Both the BMX videos show people face planting. I'm not sure how a helmet would help them there. Maybe some kind of ice hockey mask is needed.
