Agreed, but a competition bike, not a race bike if you're being pedantic about it
I'm a pedant, but I don't know the difference with respect to the Britten- enlighten me. ๐
Trials isn't a race.
๐
But it's a beautiful bike all the same.
(I assume he's referring to the Fantic!)
ah, I thought he was referring to the Britten.
1980s YZs blew me away as kid
Drum brakes...how did we ever survive ? ๐
The yellow and black (American) YZ's always looked so trick, when you saw one over here you almost had to speak in hushed whispers ๐
2 Ducatis and the Cagiva, I'm off to clean up.
Even though not strictly a racing bike, can we include a Kenny Roberts 350LC? Just because.....
Yes, but only because it's a 2-stroke and there is plenty of love going on here ๐
Hmmmmm I had an RD250LC - "B284 BOK" where are you now?
I checked now and it was last Taxed in 1997 and hasn't been scrapped. That must mean it's stored somewhere just waiting for me to find it again ๐
Lovely PP, I've owned 3 Ducati 916's, along with 2 748's and a 749 ๐
Pic below is my old race bike. Blueprinted and gasflowed engine, STM slipper clutch, 50mm exhaust, Marchesinis, etc etc

Rusty Time and Observation trial could be considered a race ๐ na na neh na na ๐
Here's one that bloke from the jungle had something to do with
He only went to the jungle in the hope that people would forget about that.
500cc MV Agusta - I think this is the triple - with the legendary Ago on board.
I hear that bike in my dreams - nothing
ever [or since] sounds that good.
Saw & heard the MV at Olivers Mount way back. I've never heard anything like it to this day.
I never saw Ago at Scarborough but I remember seeing Phil Read on the works MV there and - of course - the incredible noise as hammered it's way though the trees
Happy days ๐
I was lucky & saw them both! Ago didn't do too well, got beat by Jarno Saarinen (?)
The classic bikes around Oliver's Mount, winding it on out of the hairpin and up the hill made a spine tingling noise... I feel a Google for the date coming on, it's Gold Cup weekend not Cock o' the North isn't it?
I did however see Ago win both the junior and senior TT in 1970
For the senior we were at Quarterbridge and again, the sound of that MV heading out of town was amazing
Not sure, never been for about 25 years!
Yeah, I think it's the Gold Cup meeting in September that has the classic races
The yellow and black (American) YZ's always looked so trick, when you saw one over here you almost had to speak in hushed whispers
A lad in our schoolboy MX club had a yellow Yamaha 80 with a full DG convesion kit.
Almost as trick as Jason Bonhams watercooled Mugen Honda.
Looked just like Johnny O's bike.
Seems money could buy you a works bike.

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned this already, but this years IOM TT Norton. If anyone didn't see the documentary on the making of it before this years TT you missed a great spot of viewing!
UK made and my god it sounds glorious too.

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned this already, but this years IOM TT Norton.
It's an Aprilia with a flat cap.
Their own engine now I believe. For custom sounds courtesy of Norton themselves visit;

Always been a two stroke lover so the previous pics of the Jap import Honda NSR250, Yam TZ250, Suzuki RGV250 (The road version which I owned, immense B road blaster) and culminating in the ultimate 2stokes, the 500 class will always be close to my heart.
Of the superbike class the RC30 and RC45 were great looking bikes (the 30 pipping the 45 in looks department I think) but the best looking bike that Honda did of this class was the RVF750, ridden by Foggy and Hislop at the IOM

Speaking of Foggy he'll always be remembered with the Ducati 916 range, beautiful bikes but I've always preferred it's predecessor, the 888:
