If it's live Hawkwind then surely Space Ritual is the album?
Agree with winston dog, the ultimate live album Thin Lizzy live and dangerous
Was Live at Leeds a double? AFAICR it was a gatefold but not sure if it was just one record. CD reissue had a load more stuff on it anyway, so it counts for me. The bass sound... oof.
And It's Alive, and Live & Dangerous of course.
I thought the OP asked for double albums...
Thunder are indeed the finest live band, mctd, but I've never felt that their live recordings really capture the quality.
After all, you can't see Danny dancing!
Woo hoo, those were the days! Must have seen ELP 3 times. 🙂
Anyway, no triple concept albums from Yes?
Not a double, but a damn fine album nonetheless (saw them perform this at Aston Villa Leisure Centre of all places circa 1991).
my faves have already been mentioned
Iron Maiden - Live After Death (much better than their later offering aA Real Live One / A Real Dead One)
Ac-DC - Live
Slayer - Decade Of Agression
queensryche's operation livecrime is a goo 'un too
Not a double, but "WHO" cares when it's this good!!
Get yer ya ya's out - the stones & love you live, particularly side 3 ( el mocambo side) absolutely rock
Free Live! Is also mighty fine
the "wonder stuff live at bescot stadium" E.P. was intense(does this count?)
but seeing U.F.O with schenker and then without were best moments of my early life
Good to see Neil Young and Rory Gallagher get a mention. 8)
Speaking of Rory Gallagher, Taste live at the Isle of Wight is another good 'un.
John Mayer Live..
&
Jason Mraz live..
101 by DM.
I can't quite get my head round the fact that come March, it will be the 25th anniversary of this sublime piece of work. Seems like yesterday.

Best live double album? Whitesnake - live in the heart of the city.
Absolutely sublime blues rock. It's a bittersweet experience listening to it though. You wonder, completely baffled, how they managed to go from this to churning out the absolutely bloody god-awful hair-rock shite they we're responsible for vomiting out in the 80's, complete with the most cringeworthy videos known to man
Good call deluded.
Can't understand why people like metallica when slayer are so much better.
In some parallel universe, certainly not the one I inhabit.
Back to live albums; Lizzy, Live and Dangerous, Purple, Made In Japan, Zeppelin, The Song Remains The Same. (Got an original movie poster for this tucked away somewhere, goes for around £4-500). 😀
Gotta agree with others Hawkwind - Space Ritual is the one for me.
101 Depeche mode
live in the city of light simple minds
U2 live at red rock under a blood red sky
Yeah im early 40's
Townes Van Zandt Live at the old quarter.
Breathtaking brilliance.
End of thread.
Another vote here for Live Killers (Queen) - absolutely my favourite Queen album.
Also +1 for Stop Making Sense, if it qualifies as a double album - I know it was reissued a few years back in an expanded version, but I've a feeling it was a single originally?
I'm going to upset a few people, The Song Remains The Same isn't a live album, redubbed from studio and rehearsal room.
The BBC tapes are live (and very good, Thank You is monumental.)although theres only John Peel and a few others there.
DP Made in Japan, good althoughI'd go for In Concert
Got to be The Macc Lads, Live at Leeds ( The Who?)
Slightly over double albums,
Zeppelin how the west we was won
Yes yessongs
Rush all the worlds a stage
Plus the Springsteen live album just for coffee table appeal?
a bit marmite but I used to listen to Seconds out /genesis a bit too much. (40++)

Bill Withers - Live @ Carnegie Hall
Simple Minds - Live in the city of light .
Just before they turned totally shit and has enough of New Gold Dream to outweigh the inferior 'Once upon a time' tracks.
'Weld' for me, easily.
whether you like them or not its a very good example of a live album
Well, you must listen to music in a completely different way to me.. I have to like the music first!
Absolutely Sound of Impact, why did I ever sell that album?
My nomination is Sweet Sister Ray bootleg. 4 20 minute plus live versions of the infamous song.

Liking the Queen Live Killers. Loving the Thin Lizzy Live and Dangerous too
Delicate Sound of Thunder - Floyd. Brilliant!
The double live Talking Heads album that I remember was "The name of this band is Talking Heads". Very good IIRC, but Ramones FTW
Well, you must listen to music in a completely different way to me.. I have to like the music first!
I do like Kiss, but know they are not everybodys cup of tea amongst the rock/metal crowd.
Judas Priest made some great albums, but their live Unleashed In The East was very poor.
I meant a good example as in conveying the live atmosphere of the gig rather than tracks that had been edited and strung together.
