Using Ryanair at the minute but wouldn't mind seeing if anyone has any other brighter ideas?

I always use HolidayAutos.com - I think RyanAir use them as well but badged as themselves.
Holiday Auto's are cheaper than Ryanair. Take your own child seat as Ryanair allow you to carry them for free, and hire companies charge about £50. Take out your own excess insurance too through Moneymaxim
i second autoeurope, see whos on the money then via quidco or topcashback go direct to hertz etc

IME holiday autos are the cheapest, we usually just try a few websites. Be aware that it is well known that Brits are charged more than foreigners especially Americans for the same rentals, we've seen this first hand and usually rent cars in my French wifes name/address/credit card. I don't mnow what the law is supposed to be but its still happening.
