Helen Skelton on a swivel chair. Or a swing.

She's a Northerner, so at least the ethnic minorities are represented... 😉

before you get upperty about presenters check out the sports teams.. what about the 8 blokes in the canoe.. all white and posh. golfers? badminton? equestrian? sword fighting? swimming? not a single athlete of colour in the gb teams? seems the only sport i see parity is boxing..

Well of course they're never pick athletes to represent their country based purely on skin colour or ethnicity rather than the very best ability at their chosen sport now, would they? 🙄

Just perhaps senior management looked in the diary to see who was available and who had the most experience for the presenting job, its in no way racist

No white sprinters i assume and i bet very few athletes from track and field

It is interesting the "ethnic" element to sports but its not racism its just talent or opportunity

Anyway golf is on now that will surely redress the gender and race bias

Forget the Olympics, I'm still reeling from the fact that Steph who does BBC breakfast business and murders every vowel possible, has been promoted to the main sofa! Surely token Norvens, should only be allowed token parts?

The high profile BBC presenter Sarah Kennedy claimed that black people made good athletes because they were used to running away from lions.

Mind you that and some other choice comments such as that she could not spot a black man in a dark street until he opened his mouth eventually got her the sack from the BBC.

Why it took them so long to sack her I don't know. It probably proves that the BBC is racist. Although I thought you had to be a politically correct left-wing trot to work for the BBC. It's all very confusing. ITV don't seem to have this problem.

It's not surprising that the ****er sports are overwhelmingly done by posh white ****ers. (and more seriously, stuff with infrastructure and kit requirements will always be more accessible to well off people, not that many people from a housing estate in saff london get a pony for their 8th birthday) So this stuff isn't racist or elitist, it's just capitalism.

Exception to every rule, etc.

Steve Redgrave, a builder's son. Hardly born in to the landed gentry.

See also Mohamed Sbihi.

Now, I agree that these are slightly outliers in the pack, but how many privately educated top level soccerists are there, for comparison?

Careful, the late time we had chippy elitist nonsense was the night of the long knives.

No I was talking about Sarah Kennedy on BBC radio, nothing to do with the Olympics. Read the post.
